State of Massachusetts Facility Registered Nurse IV in Wrentham, Massachusetts

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is searching for an experienced, skillful Massachusetts Licensed Registered Nurse to fill a very challenging and rewardingFacility Registered Nurse IV (RN 4)position for the Wrentham Developmental Center. The RN 4 will confer with health care professionals, assess outcomes of care provided, provide training to staff related to health care procedures, participate in the orientation of new nursing personnel and perform relatedduties. The RN 4 will provide direct supervision to the LPN I, LPN II, RN I, RN II and RN IIIstaff assigned to the Nursing Administrative Office and will assist in the coordination of the delivery of nursing services and supervise staff assigned to their Unit on the night shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.). _Duties and Responsibilities:_ (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive) * Assists, supervises, evaluates, counsels, and participates in training LPN/RN staff to ensure they meet their nursing process responsibilities. * Performance Appraisal (Nurses) Supervises the performance of LPN I, LPN II, RN I, RN II, and RN III nursing staff by direct observation and documentation reviews to promote professional growth and to ensure competency in practice. * Provide training to other disciplines, peers, and direct care providers by conducting classes, demonstrating procedures and supervising return demonstrations in order to ensure that knowledge is shared, and staff are competent and informed in providing care. * Assume specialized administrative and clinical nursing roles by functioning as an emergency responder and by assuming facility-wide supervisory responsibilities to ensure that nursing services will be provided to all residents. * Assist with assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing services delivered to the residents. * Participate in indirect nursing services including providing training and relaying information to staff regarding Nursing Department and Facility Policies and Procedures. * Ensure Compliance with DDS, State and Federal Regulations, performs audits to measure the quality of nursing care provided. * Communicate with off-site Physicians and utilize established Nursing procedures, policies, and protocols to meet the health care needs of the residents. * Communication and collaboration with staff at all levels throughout the facility to ensure continuity of care. * Provide facility-wide supervision when necessary. _Required Qualifications:_ * Applicant must possess a current and active Massachusetts Registered Nursing (RN) license to practice as an RN in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. * Incumbents must obtain and maintain Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Supervisory experience. * Composure to work in stressful situations, maintain a calm manner, utilize sound judgment, make decisions and act quickly in emergency situations. * Ability to maintain accurate records and use discretion in handling confidential information. * Excellent written and verbal skills communicate clearly and concisely in the ability to give oral instructions in a precise and understandable manner. * Familiarity with safety practices and medical terminology/abbreviations. * Knowledge of the sanitation and sterilization methods, techniques, and procedures followed in a medical facility. * Ability to understand, apply, and explain the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing agency operations. * Knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods and techniques; _Agency Requirements:_ * Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. * Possess a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s license or equivalent license from the state in which you reside. _Special Requirements:_ * This position is designated as an "EMERGENCY" position in the Department of Developmental Services Emergency Plan.This means that whenever the Governor declares that the Commonwealth is in a state of emergency, selected candidate be required to report to work. * * This position is in a program that operates 24-hour/7 days a week. Candidates must be flexible in their work schedule. The Department requires employees in this position to be able to performMandatory Overtimewhen circumstances dictate the need. *_Schedule Information:_ Full-time – 40 hour weekly position Third Shift – 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. Days off: Every other weekend with days off in the alternating weeks to meet the needs of the department. Substitutions: I. A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES:Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
