State of Massachusetts Registered Nurse IV Infection Preventionist in Worcester, Massachusetts

Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking an experienced* Registered Nurse IV Infection Preventionist to monitor associate compliance with infection control standards through use of barriers and infection prevention measures. Prepares and presents education for the staff, residents, and families. The Registered Nurse IV Infection Preventionist will oversee the infection control surveillance activities, vaccination/TB program, employee health program, hand hygiene activities, infection control protocols and plans, and medical equipment pertaining to infection control. Acts as a liaison with outside agencies (e.g. DPH, etc.) and other DMH facilities pertaining to infection control. Serves on the Infection Control Committee as the Co-Chairperson. Educates patients and staff to enhance the living/work environment associated with infection control. Assists with both medical and psychiatric emergencies. *Please Note:This position is 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will typically work Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with Saturday/Sunday as days off. However, the hours are flexible to include weekend, holiday, evening, and overnight coverage. _Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_ * Establish, conduct, and manage a monitoring system for the surveillance of patient care units and hospital-wide to ensure compliance with infection control standards (e.g. Joint Commission, DPH, CDC, etc.). * Annually update/review of Infection Control Vulnerability Hazard Analysis * Conducts surveillance (including environmental surveillance) and uses this data to assist in improving patient care and decrease rate of infection. * Audits patient records for infection control related matters * Collects, analyzes, and trends Infection Control data and generates reports, graphs, and statistics for designated committees * Identify, evaluate, and record vital statistical data, including cultures and antibiotic usage providing regular reports to the Infection Control Committee. * Managing/oversee vaccine and TB program for staff and patients, which includes being responsible for Quality Control for storage, administration, and documentation of vaccines/TB testing * Coordinates and assists Medical Clinic LPNs in scheduling/administering and managing ordered vaccines, TB tests and data for patients. * Act as a liaison person with outside agencies in both the public and private sector as it relates to infection control. * Develop protocols, plans, and goals regarding infection control to ensure consistent and appropriate intervention by staff members of all departments (e.g. hand hygiene management, influenza management, etc.). * Serves on the Infection Control Committee as the Co-Chairperson. * Oversees, conducts and documents tuberculosis screening and immunization status for pre-employment health requirements as well as hospital-wide of all staff. * Participates in Staff Development as it relates to infection control (e.g. conducting orientation of all initial CMA-DMH staff, providing guidance for annual review, etc.) regarding mandatory Infection Control practices and guidelines (including on HIV/AIDS, etc.). * Consults with department heads to review specific cases and to ensure compliance with infection control protocols and plans. * Responsible for oversight of cleaning/disinfecting of all medical equipment hospital wide Participates in the direct care and treatment of patients by leading weekly/as needed patient educational groups. * Treats all patients with dignity and respect through interactions which affirm the individual’s needs and preferences and by optimally integrating the patient perspective into all facets of care; will advocate for patients, facilitate timely resolution of patient concerns, and assist patients in the exercise of their rights. * Participate in patient medical and psychiatric emergencies. * Performs other related duties as assigned. _Required Qualifications_: * Thorough knowledge of the theories and practice of nursing. * Knowledge of the types and uses of sterilization equipment used in a medical facility. * Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities determining subordinates training needs and coordinates such training. * Knowledge of training methods and techniques and the ability to plan and conduct training or instruction in specific areas of nursing. * Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team approach. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Current Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) or obtain certification within 4 years of initiation of Infection Preventionist position. * At least 1 year experience full time or two years part time in an infection control role and thorough knowledge of infection control practices. * Ability to work flexible hours to include weekend, holiday, evening, and overnight coverage. * Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency. * American Sign Language (ASL) _About Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH):_ Located on over 100 acres in Worcester, Massachusetts, Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) is part of an integrated network of effective, efficient and culturally competent mental health services. It provides intermediate and long-term inpatient care for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness who live in Massachusetts, as well as individuals requiring specialized court ordered evaluations.
