State of Massachusetts Registered Nurse II in Worcester, Massachusetts

The Department of Mental Health (DMH) Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse who will direct and participate in the nursing care of adult and geriatric patients on an inpatient unit following standards of care. The selected candidate transcribes, administers and/or supervises administration of medication in accordance with standard practices and protocols. Maintains accurate records related to activities, meetings, groups, treatment plan schedules and all nursing assignments. Establishes and maintains a current nursing care plan and completes written assessment of nursing needs. Provides professional expertise and knowledge in carrying out emergency functions, all codes, and unexpected emergencies. Our ideal applicant will have one (1) year of experience as a registered nurse and will combine the knowledge, clinical skills, and judgment necessary to perform all nursing procedures as outlined in the scope of practice. _Please Note:_ The available schedules vary. Below is a breakdown of shifts: 1st Shift 6:45 AM- 3:15 PM 2nd Shift 2:45 PM- 11:15 PM 3rd Shift 11:00 PM- 7:00 AM /_Candidates Please Note_//:// We are eager to announce the expansion of two (2) inpatient units over the next 2-3 months with the anticipation of onboarding a combination of clinical, non-clinical, facility and other program related staff. Your understanding is greatly appreciated as we review all applications and begin stages of interviews. / _Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive):_ * Treats all patients with dignity and respect through interactions which affirm the individual’s needs and preferences and by optimally integrating the patient perspective into all facets of care; will advocate for patients, facilitate timely resolution of patient concerns and assist patients in the exercise of their rights. * Performs duties of charge nurse on a ward for a single shift on a regular basis. * Directs, supervises and provides nursing care in assigned area through shift reports, review of documentation in patients’ medical records, attending staff meetings and participating in treatment planning. * Provides nursing care to patients by assessing health status, recording related health data, administering standard nursing treatment, evaluating patients’ conditions and adjusting care in conjunction with other providers. * Establishes a plan of patient care through consultations with other staff and supervisors and through an analysis of data and symptoms. * Admits, discharges and transfers patients; provides and coordinates health teaching to maintain optimum level of health and function. * Responds to health and safety issues by initiating appropriate action; prepares and maintains pertinent documentation in accordance with regulatory and departmental standards. * Assesses, identifies and evaluates changes in patient’s condition; documents and reports findings to appropriate health care personnel. * Performs initial investigations of complaints of patients and others and reports findings in writing to immediate supervisor. * Instructs ward or unit personnel in nursing techniques, procedures and equipment. * Assesses overall functioning of nursing staff by insuring that job performance evaluations are done in accordance with both the hospital and nursing standards. * Administer treatment and medications as prescribed by a physician according to established hospital procedures; maintain accurate medication records. /_Required Qualifications_/ * Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing * Understanding of the problems in providing nursing services to special client groups such as mentally, physically and or emotionally handicapped. * Demonstrated knowledge of the types and application of emergency medical procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation and tourniquets. /_Preferred Qualifications_//:/ * Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. * Meditech & Meta experience, CPR and IV certification. * Sound knowledge of philosophy, principles, practices, and theories of public health and public health nursing. * Demonstrated knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods, techniques, safety practices and medical terminology/abbreviations. * Ability to establish effective relationships with individuals, families, providers, physicians and staff members. * Proficient usage of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook. * Experience working with individuals with serious, persistent mental illness and/or substance abuse. * American Sign Language (ASL) * Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency. _About Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH):_ Located on over 100 acres in Worcester, Massachusetts, Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) is part of an integrated network of effective, efficient and culturally competent mental health services. It provides intermediate and long-term inpatient care for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness who live in Massachusetts, as well as individuals requiring specialized court ordered evaluations. WRCH provides inpatient services to 260 inpatient adults, inclusive of a Deaf Inpatient Mental Health Service; 30 inpatient adolescents and 30 residential adolescents, in either an Intensive Residential Treatment Program (IRTP) or a Behavioral Intensive Residential Treatment Program (BIRT). _DMH Mission Statement:_ The Department of Mental Health assures and provides access to services and supports to meet the mental health needs of individuals of all ages, enabling them to live, work and participate in their communities. A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for the required experience .* Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. *Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
