We are currently hiring a Recovery Coach based in Worcester. As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Recovery Coach helps to provide non-clinical services to individuals establishing and maintaining recovery from substance use disorders (SUD) within the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center’s Medication-Assisted Treatment Program (MAT) Program. The MAT Recovery Coach will establish relationships with patients based on respect and empowerment, advocacy, role-modeling, providing peer support, personal assistance, and education on community resources.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborates within a multidisciplinary team of Primary Care Providers (PCP’s), behavioral health clinicians, nurses, and other essential care team members to provide peer-support through coaching, mentorship, advocacy, and role-modeling to empower and to assist patients in developing skills to achieve their recovery goals.

  • Works within a team in the clinical setting and community outreach setting, and via telephone per EMKCHC protocols to provide patient outreach and encourages patient retention and engagement in care.

  • Work in close connection with MAT Community Health Worker to address basic needs challenges, such as nutrition, housing, and transportation, and for assistance with navigation of community resources and recovery support systems.

  • Acts as a liaison between patient and care team and reports all clinical questions, concerns, and updates to RN and/or provider.

  • Ability to facilitate recovery support groups, as well as educational groups for SUD patients.

  • Possesses a willingness to learn about and utilize communication techniques such as motivational interviewing. Demonstration of knowledge and management of effective coping techniques. Demonstration of knowledge or willingness to learn about trauma informed care.

  • Demonstration of understanding of different levels of needs that SUD patients can experience.

  • Provide education in relation to substance use, harm reduction strategies, mental health, HIV, Hepatitis C, tobacco use, nutrition, physical activity, and wellness information and other trainings and education programs as assigned to meet the needs of the community, patients, and health center.

  •  Documents non-clinical care in EHR in a timely and accurate manner and per health center protocols.

  • Compliance with confidentiality protocols, and standards of ethical practices.

    Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED certificate

  • Recovery Coach Certification

  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred

  • Reliable transportation

  • Experience as a Recovery Coach in clinical environments preferred

  • Understanding of basic principles of substance use disorders and treatment options

  • Demonstrated technical experience with Microsoft Word, Excel (or similar databases), and Internet Explorer.

  • Strong oral communication and written skills

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
