GeneralSummary: Performs phlebotomy functions and non-technical duties in areas including the hospital laboratory, outpatient and off-site services.

EssentialJob Responsibilities:

  1. Adheres to andsupports the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and proceduresof Tenet Physician Resources.

  2. Adheres to the TenetHIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.

  3. Demonstrates supportfor the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of complianceresponsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct; adhering to federal andstate laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures policiesthat affect his/her specific job functions/responsibilities; and reportingcompliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.

  4. Perform blood draws competently and expediently with aslittle patient discomfort as possible

  5. Recordphlebotomy requisitions

  6. Identifythe patient by comparing patient information on the requisition to thepatient’s identification band before venipuncture is performed

  7. Displaycourteous, professional manner towards patients, co-workers, nursing andmedical staff

  8. Labeland record all test tubes, log procedures and file paperwork

  9. Demonstrateknowledge of color top tube to use, volume of blood needed and testrequirements

  10. Followstandard precautions at all times

  11. Disposeall sharp instruments in a rigid sharp container

  12. Cleanand supply venipuncture trays

  13. Maintainclean work area

  14. Ordersupplies as needed

  15. Completeassigned duties efficiently and in a timely manner

  16. Prioritizeorders

  17. Seekguidance and direction when necessary

  18. Assistfront office and medical assistants in the office as directed

Education: High school diploma/GED required with completion of phlebotomy program

Certification : Phlebotomy (CPT) and CPR certification

Experience: Must have a minimum of one year of experience working as a phlebotomist in a physician office
