State of Massachusetts Occupational Therapist II in Worcester, Massachusetts

The Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital is seeking a dynamic individual for the role of Occupational Therapist Supervisor (OT II) who will provide departmental leadership through daily supervision, and clinical and operational oversight of assigned rehabilitation programs and staff in a adult in-patient setting.

In collaboration with the Rehabilitation Director, the Occupational Therapy Supervisor will facilitate the delivery of Rehabilitation services that is person-centered, recovery-based, and clinically-driven, and establish programs that are evidence-based using best practice evaluations and treatments. As a member of the Rehabilitation Clinical Leadership Team, the Supervisor must have a clear understanding of a hospital’s operational and administrative needs.

The Occupational Therapy Supervisor will also evaluate patients’ needs for Occupational Therapy/Rehabilitation Services, and design and provide treatment as indicated.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all-inclusive)

Under the direction of the Director of Rehabilitation (OT III) and in collaboration of other Rehabilitation Supervisors the Occupational Therapist Supervisor will:

Provide clinical and operational oversight of rehabilitation services treatment schedule for assigned units and treatment locations, ensuring an engaging treatment focused milieu. Make staffing assignments that meet the clinical and operational needs of the Rehabilitation Program, Joint Commission standards, and CMS standards of care.

Provide direct and indirect supervision of Occupational Therapists, Rehab Counselors, interns, students, etc. to ensure effective delivery of services and compliance with agency programs and policy.

Oversee patient’s evaluations and at times, evaluates patients’ need for therapy through interviews, direct observations, review of medical records and by conducting functional assessments to determine patient’s functional skills levels for assigned units.

Provide supervision, clinical oversight, and may develop, as needed, Occupational/Rehabilitation treatment plans in conjunction with the Treatment Team to ensure clinically appropriate modalities are included in the Recovery based Master Treatment Plan based on the functional assessment findings, and the patients individual Recovery Goals.

As assigned, conduct individual/group treatment, and milieu activities, both in treatment site locations, and on unit.

Supervise and may provide documentation of patients’ progress, and records result of assessments within the guidelines as mandated by accrediting bodies and billing agencies. Maintains statistics, keeps accurate billing logs, and tracks patients’ attendance in programs as assigned.

Ensure rehabilitation staff competence by providing audits of care, supervision, training's, consultation, recommend training needs, and scheduling staff to participate in training's to maintain competencies in rehabilitation treatment services provided.

Interview candidates for employment and make recommendations concerning the hiring, promotion, etc. of agency staff. (As assigned).

Actively participate in assigned committees, participate in rehabilitation data collection/fact findings, prepare reports, and communicate report findings both written and verbally to the Director of Rehabilitation.

Perform related duties such as maintaining records; ordering equipment, materials and supplies; attending meetings and in-service training programs, and providing on-the-job training to staff and students.

Recommend the establishment or revision of policies, procedures, and standards governing the unit.

May be required to transport patients to evaluations, events and or appointments.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and perform administrative duties for a large rehabilitation department.

BS degree or greater in the field of Occupational Therapy

Valid License to practice as a Registered Occupational Therapist in MA

Valid NBCOT, Board Certified Occupational Therapist

Valid MA Driver’s License

Ability to drive a 15 passenger van

This position is Full-Time, 7:30 AM-4:00 PM. Days Off: Saturday / Sunday

May need to rotate weekends

This position will be the OT II Supervisor for the assigned rehabilitation treatment area(s)

Bilingual or multilingual fluency. Candidates must be able to read, write and otherwise communicate in English. ASL preferred.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience as an occupational therapist.
