Location: Greater Worcester, Greater Taunton and Attleboro

Supervision Exercised: Supervises assigned Nurse Directors, Senior Nurse Mangers, Float Nurse Managers, Senior Float Nurse Managers and/or other assigned nursing teams.

General Statement of Duties: Responsible for providing clinical leadership, direction, planning, development, and oversite of healthcare services provided in three large residential clusters (approximately 35 programs). The Director of Health Care Services supports the mission and vision of the Health Care Department, fosters a collaborative and efficient work environment with attention to policies, procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations to ensure a high-quality level of care to persons served.

As a condition of employment, successful applicants will be required to be fully vaccinated, by their start date. Details related to demonstrating compliance with this requirement will be provided to candidates who have been selected for employment.

  • Provide supervision, performance appraisals, disciplines and staff recognition to assigned nurses in the residential system.

  • Work with members of the Field Leaders Team (Vice Presidents and key administrators) to maximize nursing resources and efficiencies.

  • Support a training program for newly licensed nursing staff.

  • Coach and mentor members of the nursing team to ensure quality nursing care.

  • In conjunction with staffing coordinators, interview, hire and train assigned staff. Actively participate in retention efforts.

  • Collaborate with staffing coordinators to ensure the centralized system for coordinating nursing coverage is implemented effectively.

  • Approve bi-weekly time cards, including the management of holiday coverage.

  • Drive a strong culture of excellence that fosters accountability, teamwork and mutual respect amongst team members.

  • Support the overall growth of the division by analyzing existing business practices, recommending improvements, and participating in new business development opportunities.

  • Provide clinical and administrative oversight to agency programs regarding the Department of Public Health’s Medication Administration procedures, protocols and compliance.

  • Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of healthcare and medication policies, protocols and procedures. Review and approve health care plans and protocols for persons served.

  • Ensure compliance with licensing and accreditation standards, including CARF and DPH, as well as applicable local, state and federal regulations.

  • Participate in senior management meetings and agency committees. Keep self and reporting staff aware of program and agency information and needs. Assume responsibility for projects or tasks as assigned, keeping colleagues informed of the progress toward desired outcomes.

  • Serve on the Medical Risk Committee and other various agency committees/subcommittees/workgroups. Collaborate with senior management to evaluate and implement recommendations from established committees or workgroups.

  • Work with department leaders to share information and resolve area of concerns.

  • Participate in statewide and provider workgroups focusing on system improvements and health regulations.

  • Liaison with schools, hospitals, local boards of health and other external providers.

  • Identify, plan, develop and select appropriate health education/nursing competencies, medication trainings and group education activities. Available to train on weekends and evening shifts as needed.

  • Must be able to collect, analyze, measure data to improve overall systems.

  • Participate in on-going efforts to improve the quality of care. Monitor, document and evaluate outcomes of care.

  • Respond to healthcare issues and complaints in a timely manner. Identify system problems which may contribute to errors and monitor corrective actions to ensure effective resolution.

  • Collaborate with QI department on projects and performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to program improvement plans, investigations, root cause analysis, etc

  • Collaborate and ensure performance improvement plans and reports are submitted in a timely manner.

  • Effectively communicate and share department initiatives, projects and protocols with other departments/divisions

  • Participate in the review of divisional budgets, approve invoices and adhere to budgetary parameters.

Other:

  • Perform other related work duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor.

  • Perform duties to reflect agency policies and procedures, and ethical code of conduct.

  • Execute duties to reflect reasonable safety standards. Infection Control/Universal/standard precautions must be utilized and training obtained in areas that constitute risk.

  • Ensure that a stock level of PPE, medication and other medical supplies is maintained and available to adequately meet the needs of your assigned areas.

  • Must be able to perform functions of a staff nurse as required.

  • Provide on call coverage as needed.

  • Registered Nurse in Massachusetts

  • 5-10 years working experience as a nurse.

  • Three years experience in a senior management role preferred, with progressive responsibilities.

  • MAP Trainer within one year of hire.

  • Knowledge of the theories, methods, procedures and practices of nursing care. Adheres to the Nurse Practice Act pertinent to regulations governing nursing practice and standards of care established by professional organizations.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license in state of residence.

  • Excellent computer literacy, including the ability to record data, use electronic time and attendance software, receive and send electronic mail, and work within the agency approved electronic health care record is required.

  • Effective critical thinking, problem-solving, communication and writing skills.

  • Must possess strong organizational, time management, interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities and work within a team environment.

  • Ability to push, pull and lift at least 25 lbs.

  • Experience with people with disabilities and brain injuries in a community setting desired, experience with Day Habilitation Programming desired.
