Contributes to the Hospital’s mission by planning, preparing and carrying out individually designed programs of physical therapy treatment to improve or restore function, alleviate pain and enhance patient outcomes. This clinical staff professional will have an impact on improving patient care and patient satisfaction by skillfully and empathetically treating patients with a variety of diagnoses in an empathetic and encouraging manner.

Education:

Required: Master’s Degree

Grandfathered Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in APTA Program if licensed before December 31, 1990

Preferred: Doctor of Physical Therapy

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:

Required: Massachusetts Physical Therapy License or eligible as outlined below:

Acceptable: Massachusetts Physical Therapy License Eligible According to MGL c. 112, § 23C, a PT who is waiting to take their licensure exam is eligible to work under direction of a licensed PT. Candidates practicing under the direction of a licensed Massachusetts physical therapist must sign their documentation by designating their authorizing academic credential (e.g., DPT or MSPT). The regulation requires licensed physical therapists to co-sign the candidate’s documentation.

Must obtain Physical Therapy license within 3 months of hire.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs and documents an initial examination, evaluating the data to identify problems to determine a working treatment plan prior to implementing interventions.

Plans, prepares and carries out individually designed treatment plan to improve or restore function, alleviate pain and enhance patient outcomes.

Re-evaluates the effectiveness of treatment on an ongoing basis adjusting treatments to achieve maximum benefit.

Communicates with patients and medical practitioners regarding outcomes and expectations during the course of patient care

Records prognosis, treatment, response and progress in electronic medical record and provides referral source with proper updates and discharge reports.

As a member of the multidisciplinary patient care team, communicates clearly to physicians, allied health professional, nursing and Case Managers as well as patients and their families.

Participates in discharge planning when requested to optimize the patient’s long-term outcome.

Participates in staff meetings and becomes involved in ways to improve the department.

Participates in community activities to enhance awareness of Winchester Hospital and rehabilitation services.

Transfers patient with appropriate assistive device to minimize risk to patient and therapist.

Responds to supply/equipment issues in a timely manner to ensure availability of equipment and to maximize its useful life.
