About the Job

JOB SUMMARY: Contributes to the Hospital’s mission by reviewing daily colleague Covid-related symptom attestations and related testing documentation in order to protect the health interest of our employees and to safeguard the hospital’s interest.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Required:

  • Graduate of a state approved and/or accredited School of Nursing

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or relevant field. An additional four years of RN experience may be considered in lieu of the degree to be hired into the position.

  • Obtaining a BSN is required within 5 years in this role.

Preferred: Masters degree.

Experience:

Required: At least two years relevant nursing experience

Preferred: Occupational Health experience

Other Skills/Knowledge:

Required: For safety and quality reasons, must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors and fellow members of the hospital team

Preferred: Basic computer skills

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:

Required: Current license to practice professional nursing from MA Board of Registration

Preferred: Certification as an Occupational Health Nurse

LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Basic Life Support certification

POPULATION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Professional Commitment Requirements: Keep abreast of developments in the field and/or licensure through continuing education, participation in professional organizations or a combination of both

On-call: Based on department needs

Schedule requirements: Subject to change based upon needs of the business/department

Travel requirements: Travel between hospital locations

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to the Manager of Infection Prevention and Employee Health

  • Does not supervise others

As part of the Employee Health and Infection Prevention team, the Employee Health Coordinator RN

  • Utilizes the nursing process and evidenced-based practices to provide quality, safe and timely health assessments that convey a positive impression about the Hospital’s Covid testing process.

  • Reviews daily colleagues symptom attestations.

    Interviews patients and assesses for testing; Tracks sources of exposure if known; Refers for testing as appropriate; Places orders for testing in Epic.
  • Reviews documentation for results

    Reviews spreadsheet, or Epic, for results Communicates results to colleague and advises on symptom management
  • Determines validity of non BlLH test results (testing sites and type of test) in collaboration with Infection Prevention for colleagues who have traveled

  • Follows up on voice mail messages for WH colleagues regarding symptom assessment and testing referrals.

  • Participates in flu clinics.

    Administers vaccinations Coordinates and tracks data
  • Manages other projects as assigned, such as:

    Fit testing data tracking Is Cross trained in pre-employment physicals and return to work / modifications for colleagues
  • Establishes a therapeutic, professional relationship with physicians and staff members utilizing the Employee Health services.

  • Performs all required documentation accurately, legibly and timely.

  • Appropriately follows the chain of command and adheres to hospital policies and procedures.

  • Communicates effectively within the Employee Health and Infection Prevention team to ensure continuity of coverage.

  • Gives and accepts respectful feedback to enhance teamwork.

  • Minimizes preventable harm events and consistently executes the infection control protocols. Incorporates the Culture of Safety tools in daily practice, adhering to quality and safety guidelines and communicating near-miss or potential risks.

  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment to enhance staff satisfaction and a culture of safety.

  • Responds to supply/equipment issues in a timely manner to ensure availability of equipment and to maximize its useful life.

  • Adheres to the Magnet standards of professional development and clinical practice.

  • Functions effectively in crisis situations and utilizes emergency resources.

  • Maximizes throughput to minimize wait time and attempts to accommodate staff’s schedules.
