Contributes to the Hospital’s mission by servicing the needs of the behavioral health patients. Assumes responsibility for providing skilled, creative, high quality care to patients under the direction of an ED Registered Nurse. Performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties and responsibilities in collaboration with ED clinical staff. Works effectively and collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary treatment team to enhance the smooth delivery of quality patient care. This position will have an impact on improving quality and safety to patients in the ED. The role includes but it not limited to the use of skilled communication and diversion techniques, collaboration with outside services and face-to-face interaction with patients at the bedside to ensure patient and employee safety.

Job Description:

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred: Degree in psychology or related field preferred with theoretical as well as practical knowledge of the clinical area.

Experience

Preferred: Previous related experience.

Knowledge of the care of the Behavioral Health Patient/Family unit.

Other Skills/Knowledge

Required:

  • For safety and quality reasons, must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients, visitors and fellow members of the hospital team.

  • Competent in positive and professional interactions with individual patients and families

  • Knowledge of drug and alcohol withdrawal symptoms

  • Effective understanding and application of de-escalation techniques

  • Knowledge of appropriate and safe restraint management processes

  • Demonstrates a positive demeanor that allows for respectful and courteous interaction with all external and internal customers.

  • Works cooperatively and effectively with others with the ability to adapt to changes in the workplace as part of maintaining currency in the profession.

Preferred: Basic computer skills
