Job Summary
We are seeking anEmbryology Lab Technologistin ourEmbryology Departmentat ourWilmington, MAlocation.
This individual will assist in production of embryos via in vitro fertilization (IVF), collection of embryos from naturally mated animals, cryopreservation of embryos and sperm, quality control (QC) of the produced material, and keeping track of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to gauge production success rates. Training in skills to promote further career advancement is part of this position and may include learning basic rodent survival surgery and embryo microinjection.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Use IVF to generate rodent embryos.
Collect embryos from oviduct and uterine tissue from naturally mated rodents.
Assess embryo quality.
Embryo cryopreservation.
Collect and cryopreserve sperm.
QC cryopreserved material.
Assist in maintenance of cryopreserved material.
Conduct Mouse Embryo Assays and Sperm Motility Assays to QC media and plasticware used in the lab.
Occasionally assist with dissection of rodent reproductive tracts.
Occasionally assist with animal husbandry in both Individually Ventilated Cage (IVC) Racks and in rodent Isolator Units.
Assist supervisors with mentoring and training of new personnel.
May act as team leader in specific departmental projects.
Understand and comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and biosecurity procedures.
Ensure proper record-keeping using the Internet Colony Management (ICM) software.
Use simple computer programs, databases, and applications
Comply with all local, state, and federal laws governing the use of research animals.
Work under deadlines with general guidance.
Weekends and holidays may be required
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree (A.A. /A.S.) or higher degree equivalent in Biological Science, Lab Animal Science, or related discipline.
1 years related experience and/or training.
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
Must be comfortable handling rodents, primarily mice and rats.
Proficient in computers (ie: MS Office Suite).
Ability to accurately complete detailed work.
Ability to lift 35 lbs. in weight.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in Biological Science, Lab Animal Science, or related discipline
Broad knowledge of biology lab practices.
Prior experience working with rodents.
General familiarity working with computer databases.
The hourly pay rate for this position is $24.00. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
