The Physical Therapy Department is an excellent opportunity for experienced professionals in this field to make a significant difference in the lives of the individuals that are supported by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS). The Physical Therapist I will provide direct and indirect services to address the needs of the individuals supported by DDS in the Commonwealth.
Incumbent will provide evaluations and consultation related to area of physical therapy for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and brain injury served by the Metro Region of the Department of Developmental Services. Consultation includes environmental accessibility, equipment needs, seating, positioning, neuromuscular and orthopedic conditions related to personal safety, home management, mobility and independence. Evaluation and assessment of individual needs using standardized or recommended procedures in order to support or revise individual treatment. Recommendations, procurement, modification, and monitoring of equipment, seating systems, and environmental adaptations are anticipated on a regular basis. Consultation with other professionals including occupational therapists, nurses, orthopedic specialists, equipment designers, service coordinators and program staff as required to meet the needs of individuals served. Staff training and support on ambulation, mobility, care and use of equipment and adaptive devices will be provided in order to maximize quality care independence of individuals.
Incumbent will work in conjunction with a variety of DDS and provider staff in order to address the mobility, ambulation, positioning and equipment needs of individuals served. This will include entities outside of DDS such as nursing facilities, hospitals, day habilitation programs, residential and day programs. Assistance and consultation will be provided to identify equipment and environmental needs as persons move from nursing facilities to DDS provider homes.
Incumbent will maintain knowledge and proficiency of professional practice through participation in conferences, seminars, workshops and other learning opportunities in order to ensure the provision of quality services. Incumbent will meet continuing education requirements to maintain licensure. Incumbent will participate in transition planning and ISP meetings as appropriate. Incumbent will participate in other projects and assignments and provide input to involved managers and staff as requested by the Community Systems Director or designee.
A criminal background check (CORI) will be completed on the recommended candidate as required by the regulations set forth by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services prior to the candidate being hired. In addition, Chapter 234 of the Acts of 2014, An Act Requiring National Background Checks, requires the Department of Developmental Services to conduct fingerprint-based check of the state and national criminal history databases on the recommended candidate. Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Physical Therapist license issued by the Massachusetts Division of Licensure Board of Allied Health Professionals in accordance with Chapter 667 of the Acts of 1982.
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
