Covenant Health SYSTEM DIRECTOR INFECTION PREVENTION in Tewksbury, Massachusetts
The System Director of Infection Prevention is responsible for overseeing all Infection Prevention and Control programs and activities across the system. This includes all activities related to prevention, control, and surveillance of nosocomial infections; enforcement and monitoring of infection prevention and control policies and procedures; and compliance with regulatory standards. Directs a comprehensive and unified program of infection prevention across Covenant hospitals and the post-acute continuum. Develops, maintains and systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of the system-wide program designed to identify, reduce and prevent health care-associated infections. Facilitates the systematic collection and analysis of infection data using epidemiological principles and statistical methods to identify trends and risk factors. Serves as educational resource for facility programs related to infection prevention and control (IPC) and epidemiology, providing expert knowledge and guidance. Provides consultation to interdisciplinary team members as needed by the facility infection control staff or in specialized situations as assigned by system leadership. Facilitates a continuous state of readiness surrounding licensure, accreditation and certification programs to ensure compliance with state and federal rules and regulations for Covenant facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The System Director of Infection Prevention provides oversight for Covenant Health’s infection prevention programs, directing all Infection Preventionists in the acute care facilities and associated clinics and practices, and providing direction for the post-acute Infection Prevention programs and staff.
Provides organization-wide leadership and support to assure patient safety through evidence-based practices that reduce infection risk and improve patient outcomes.
Collaborates with leadership on overall program strategy and system policy development to ensure consistency and standardization across Covenant Health.
Advises and consults with leadership and staff on matters related to infection prevention and control including surveillance, epidemiology, outcomes measurement, and quality/performance improvement.
Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of an integrated Infection Prevention program, which includes prevention, surveillance, policy development, education, strategic planning, process improvement, regulatory compliance, and reporting.
Provides mentorship for system Infection Preventionists and post-acute infection control nurses.
Maintains compliance and accreditation requirement expertise. Distills applicable information and provides guidance and interpretation to internal and external customers on current regulatory and accreditation requirements.
Facilitates compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
Represents Covenant Health Systems as appropriate in designated public, regulatory and accreditation programs.
Promotes quality, safety, and performance improvement throughout the organization.
Serves as a resource to Covenant’s committees and Value Analysis Teams to ensure the best evidence-based and cost-effective practices system-wide.
Collaborates with internal partners to provide support for initiatives such as value-based purchasing, clinically-related group purchasing arrangements, or out-sourced clinical/ professional services.
Serves as a resource for EHR standardization and documentation.
Performs administrative director functions, participates in internal and external professional activities, and travels to Covenant’s acute and post-acute care facilities on a regular basis and as needed.

Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Systems and the Catholic Health Ministry.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing, microbiology or epidemiology.
Master’s degree in a field applicable to infection prevention is preferred.
Current and unrestricted clinical license (if applicable).
Board Certification in Infection Control (CIC).
Minimum five years’ experience; with at least three years managing infection control in a hospital setting.
Knowledge and skills in: Infection Prevention Core Competencies, Infectious Disease processes, Surveillance and Epidemiologic investigation/prevention, Employee/Occupational health, and Emergency Preparedness.
Knowledge and experience with performance improvement tools and techniques.
Demonstrated experience leading system-wide projects, and/or interdisciplinary process improvement workgroups, with positive outcomes.
Demonstrated success working in a team environment, with strong communication skills and proven ability to create strong, effective working relationships.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Information management skills, including data analysis and report preparation.
Highly effective and respectful interpersonal skills and communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Experience with Epic preferred.
Effective presentation skills.
