Position Title : Certified/Licensed American Sign Language Interpreter

Department: Interpreter Services

Summary

Responsible for a variety of interpretation, transliteration and medical escort services to assist culturally Deaf, deaf, oral deaf, deaf-blind and hard of hearing patients, their families, and health care providers in a variety of patient care settings within the Covenant Health System. The certified and licensed American Sign Language Interpreter must have the ability to work with diverse populations from various economic backgrounds and age groups. The ability to work as an effective member of a dedicated team in a fast-paced Health Care environment with a variety of customer service needs providing simultaneous and consecutive communication facilitation. Other responsibilities will be to provide support to the Interpreter Services Departments under the direction of the Director/Manager; duties include but are not limited to: staff education, data entry, reminder phone calls.

He/she must be committed to the provision of interpretation services with a high regard for accuracy, confidentiality and quality.

Position Description

Certified/Licensed American Sign Language Interpreter

  • Abides by the Standards of Conduct which is the basis for the Organizational Integrity Program and the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct.

  • Supports and Promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Systems and the Catholic Health Ministry.

    Qualifications

  • Graduated from an Interpreter Training Program (ITP) with an associate degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher education preferred.

  • State issued interpreter license

  • RID National Certification preferred

  • Current Driver’s License with driving record suitable to Covenant Health Systems operations and corporate risk management.

  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology

  • Previous experience in a Health Care setting preferred.
