State of Massachusetts Registered Nurse II in Taunton, Massachusetts
Work Schedule: (40 hours) 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM with Rotating Weekends Days off: Week I Sunday/Wednesday and Week II Tuesday/Saturday
We are seeking individuals who have experience working with primary substance use treatment. The program model will provide acute detoxification and early clinical stabilization services as we help clients develop community-based linkages to outpatient supports and substance use disorder treatment providers. This program provides administrative, medical, clinical and non-clinical services. This program will provide quality client-centered care and recovery oriented treatment.
The Unit Nurse provides direction to employees of a lower level and actively participates in treatment assuring client care meets best practice standards. Compliance with all federal regulations is essential, including Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse clients and HIPAA Regulations (42 CFR Part 2 and Part 8).
• Conducts and / or participates in admissions, discharges and transfers as necessary. Assures client care meets best practice standards and in compliance with protocols. Monitors vital signs and assesses withdrawal signs and symptoms
• Monitors and treats clients who have a concomitant substance use / medical / psychiatric illness and provides emergency medical care and daily medical treatments to medically compromised clients
•Administers routine and PRN medications and assures controlled substance count and syringe count as required by standards, and ensures accurate records are kept in accordance with identified protocols, communicates with physicians, transcribes orders, and documents to maintain accurate client records. Provides medical monitoring of detoxification and utilizes protocols as ordered by physician
•Actively participates in the Interdisciplinary Team, conducts, rounds, modifying Treatment Plans and meeting with families as indicated to foster health and healing for the clients.
•Identifies and addresses client needs by conducting nursing assessments, developing nursing interventions, assesses, evaluates, and responds to changes in client conditions, documenting and reporting such changes to appropriate person to assure prompt response to client needs.
•Responds to all emergencies and provides direct client care in a professional, skilled manner.
• Assists in monitoring inventory, ordering of medications and equipment needed for daily operation of the unit in collaboration with the pharmacy.
• Documents pertinent information in accordance with established standard protocols and procedures.
Minimum of one year experience working with clients who have primary substance use disorders, which includes knowledge of detoxification protocols including but not limited to the CIWA and COWS, and working with clients in acute detoxification and in maintenance for substance use disorders is preferred.
*The Department of Mental Health (DMH) in collaboration with the Department of Public Health (DPH) Bureau of Substance Abuse Services operates a statewide Women’s Recovery from Addiction Program in Taunton for individuals civilly committed by the courts for substance use treatment for up to 90 days (“Section 35 commitment”).
The program model will provide acute detoxification and early clinical stabilization services as we help clients develop community-based linkages to outpatient supports and substance use disorder treatment providers. The individuals treated within this program will be linked upon discharge to a range of services within the DPH continuum of care for substance use conditions.
The Department of Mental Health is seeking qualified candidates for the newly created Women’s Recovery from Addiction Program for women admitted under MGL Chapter 123, Section 35. This program provides administrative, medical, clinical and non-clinical services. This program will provide quality client-centered care and recovery oriented treatment.*

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
I. A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for the required experience .*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
*Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
