State of Massachusetts Apprentice Industrial Safety & Health Inspector in Taunton, Massachusetts

The Department of Labor Standards (DLS) is seeking individuals interested in apprenticing to become Industrial Safety and Health Inspectors. This apprenticeship is an innovative program that will allow candidates to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to be field inspectors. Interested in a career helping other people? The apprenticeship is designed to provide you the education and experience you need to succeed. Some of the types of tasks you will do: * Conduct accident investigations, for amputations, electric shocks, falls, and fatalities in a variety of settings, including construction sites, manufacturing plants, water treatment facilities, public works highway departments, fire departments, prisons, and healthcare facilities. * Conduct proactive inspections to identify conditions which could cause employees injury and develop corresponding corrective actions. * Learn to use industrial hygiene equipment for air sampling, noise sampling, ventilation testing, or wipe sampling * Participate in the writing of Civil Citations, Written Warnings, and Technical Reports to require corrective action for injury prevention and compliance with OSHA standards. * Attend hearings regarding the appropriate application of safety and health standards. * Attend meetings and conferences about workplace safety and health. * Travel throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. If selected, you will be required to complete a minimum of 2000 hours of field work and 150 hours of classroom training. The 2000 hours of field work will be under the guidance and instruction of experienced Industrial Safety and Health Inspectors as part of the hands-on learning environment. You will be paid for all work and classroom time. All expenses of the training, including travel and tuition, will be paid. Classroom training may require travel to Keene, New Hampshire. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be eligible for a promotion and be a Certified Safety and Health Official. Due to the nature of the work, this apprenticeship requires flexible hours. Some days may be extended, while others shortened. Classroom learning may be outside of the usual 9a-5p workday. High school degree or equivalent required. Extensive travel is required; incumbents must have access to a properly inspected, registered and insured personal automobile and must possess a current and valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
