State of Massachusetts Identification Technician II in Sudbury, Massachusetts
Identification Technicians II are assigned to the State Identification Section and work primarily with the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and related systems and processes. Accordingly, the duties and responsibilities of the job include:
Evaluating, classifying, and analyzing fingerprints for the performance of identification functions and subsequent entry into agency and other governmental records according to section guidelines, goals and the unit mission.
Maintaining fingerprint identification proficiency according to established guidelines.
Performing data entry and scanning fingerprints and photographs into AFIS and various computer applications according to section guidelines, goals and the unit mission.
Retrieving data from AFIS and various computer applications. Verifying retrieved data for accuracy according to section guidelines, goals and the unit mission.
Contributing to records control within the unit by entering, retrieving and maintaining documents and other records in various secure and/or confidential hard and computerized files.
Utilizing office equipment (i.e. telephones, fax machines, photocopiers, scanning devices, computers) and routine work processes (i.e. emailing, faxing, copying, typing, filing) to produce, process, transmit and record, verify and correct identification and criminal history information within prescribed guidelines and as authorized by applicable law (such as CORI).
Receiving incoming communications via telephone, fax, email, regular mail and walk-in inquiries relative to requests for identification, criminal history information and associated services and assistance.
Routing, referring or responding to inquiries as directed and according to section guideline goals and the unit mission.
Assisting personnel of lower job grade as directed and needed.
Providing on-the-job training to personnel as directed and needed.
Monitoring AFIS system status and reporting anomalies and problems to supervisors or appropriate authorities for review and appropriate action.
Coordinating specific projects/programs as directed and in accordance with section guidelines, goals and the unit mission.
Performing related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part- time experience in fingerprint classification and identification.
