Video Monitoring Technician

  • Full-time 36-hours weekly

  • Days 7a-7:30p rotating schedule

  • Weekday schedule is not fixed where each week you work different days.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year of healthcare experience (BRT, Constant Companion, PCT or MT preferred)

  • Experience with Behavioral Health patients preferred, including pediatric and/or adolescent population

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)

  • Computer literate, good interpersonal skills, and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and problem solve.

  • Ability to read and write in English.

  • CPR through American Heart Association BLS Provider (required)

  • CPI required within 6 months of employment

Summary

Reports to department manager and daily activities overseen by lead/coordinator/Administrative Supervisor. Independently works with patient and family-centered care teams to ensure all business functions related to processing patient information, managing documentation, organizing patient information, and monitoring patients. Files appropriate patient reports and other information for their records. Facilitates communication among staff, relaying messages/information. Receives reports from RN regarding monitored patients per guidelines and works with unit staff to assess for appropriateness of monitoring.

Requirements

1) Video monitoring system: ensures patient information is entered correctly into software, monitors patients and attempts to verbally redirect, follows guidelines to interact with staff, and ensures patient privacy when appropriate. Notes changes in patient movement, recognize safety risks, and responds accordingly.

2) Proficiently and accurately utilizes the following computer applications in daily work: MS Word/Excel, CIS, Teletracking, and Cerner video sitter software.

3) Unit-specific projects: Work as assigned

4) Communication: provides report/handoff to next shift including patients on monitoring, notable behaviors, and any other notes concerning the patient. Receives report from RN per guidelines. Uses two-way radio to redirect patients in the room.

Activates stat alarm to runner or direct patient care staff if the patient is not following direction or it is an emergent situation. Answers telephones and relays messages promptly with consistent accuracy to team members. Works with the charge nurse to ensure accurate use of the system and works with the charge nurse or administrative supervisor if the patient fails video monitoring criteria. Communicates professionally.

5) Serve as a resource to units to ensure safe video monitoring of patients and escalate when appropriate.

6) Hospital Records and logs: Keeps record of video monitoring in EMR and reason for continuous monitoring, documents patient activities at least once an hour on the continuous observation log.

7) Ensures all supplies are available and equipment is working properly.

8) Is knowledgeable of and initiates emergency procedures as needed/directed within the unit/department. Verbalizes knowledge and location of emergency equipment. Mobilizes emergency support personnel through immediate telephone contact

9) Demonstrates competency for one-to-one observation of patients based on department and unit-specific needs
