Position Purpose:

The Registered Dietitian provides nutrition consultations across the continuum of cancer care including primary prevention, cancer treatment, secondary prevention, cancer recurrence, and palliative care. Provides age and culturally appropriate medical nutrition therapy to patients by assessing nutritional status, designing appropriate care plans, and monitoring to maximize clinical outcomes.

What you will do:

  • Implement nutrition screening for cancer patients undergoing active treatment and monitors effectiveness of screening procedures.

  • Performs individualized nutrition assessments using evidence-based practice guidelines and Nutrition Care Process based on patients' specific therapies and nutrition needs.

  • Assess need and provides oncology nutrition education to patients, families, and the health care team. Provides specific instruction on modified diets when appropriate.

  • Develop and implements patient specific nutritional care plans, interventions, and goals as per Clinical Nutrition Patient Care Guidelines.

  • Monitor and evaluates patients’ responses to nutrition interventions.

  • Manage nutrition support (enteral and parenteral nutrition) as per Clinical Nutrition Patient Care Guidelines including initiation, advancement, maintenance, and care coordination.

  • Monitor for food and drug interactions and makes appropriate interventions. Educates patients, families, and staff on interaction when appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Registration as dietitian with CDR and MA license required. Maintenance of registration and licensure required as per guidelines.

  • Requires the knowledge of theories, principles and concepts of human nutrition and metabolism.

  • Requires the analytical ability to collect information from diverse sources, synthesize a problem list and to devise/implement intervention with emphasis on nutrition needs of cancer patients.

  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. This may include explaining clinical, technical concepts to physicians, other health care team members, patients and their families, comforting patients, and their families, enforcing policies and regulations in difficult situations, or performing other duties requiring a comparable level of communication skill.
