Position Purpose

Selects and performs diagnostic tests of the Cardiopulmonary system, understand the effects of disease, and instruct or supervise others who perform these tasks. The Pulmonary Function Technologist can identify abnormalities and impairments of the cardiopulmonary system and know when to consult a physician. They can assess patient performance of a test and know when repetition or cessation of a procedure is required.

What you will do

  • Arranges for patient testing by obtaining appropriate supplies and equipment necessary to perform requested tests

  • Evaluates quality control data and calibrates testing equipment prior to testing

  • Interviews patients in order to gather and documents pertinent patient information; explains test procedures to patients or family members

  • Sets up, operates, and maintains required testing equipment

  • Performs a variety of routine pulmonary tests according to established procedures

  • Performs arterial punctures and aspiration from indwelling catheters to obtain blood samples

Minimum Qualifications

  • Work requires an Associate in Science degree, Respiratory Therapy with one to three (1-3) years of experience in respiratory care

  • MA state licensure required. CPFT or RPFT required or able to secure credential within one (1) year. CPR Certified

  • Work requires the analytical ability to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles
