job Description:

Selects and performs diagnostic tests of the Cardiopulmonary system, understand the effects of disease on that system, and are able to instruct or supervise others who perform these tasks. The Pulmonary Function Technologist can identify abnormalities and impairments of the cardiopulmonary system and know when to consult a physician for assistance in evaluation. They can assess patient performance of a test and know when repetition or cessation of a procedure is required. They have a comprehensive knowledge of the equipment use, can identify malfunctions, perform quality assurance/control, and initiate corrective actions or clinical assessments

You Will Be Responsible For :

  • Exceptional Patient Care : Interviews patients in order to gather and documents pertinent patient information including history of respiratory problems, reason for test, and current medications.

  • Technical Familiarity: Performs arterial punctures and aspiration from indwelling catheters to obtain blood samples using competent technique. Receives requests for procedures and arranges for patient testing by obtaining appropriate supplies and equipment necessary to perform requested tests. Evaluates quality control data and calibrates testing equipment prior to testing.

  • Excellent Communicator : Explains test procedures to patients or family members to alleviate fears and anxiety and illicit cooperation.Demonstrates sensitivity to patient’s needs; treats patients with skill, dignity, tact, and patience at all times.

  • Strong Educator: Assists in in-service education and orientation, and training of all new colleagues and students who require education in some or all procedures covered by the Pulmonary Lab.

  • Active Teamwork : Performs miscellaneous clerical duties in absence of secretary including answering telephones, taking and relaying messages, scheduling appointments, filing records, entering patient charges, performing QA, and so forth.

Requirements :

  • Work requires an Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy with up to 1 – 3 years of experience as a therapist and six to twelve months of previous work related experience.

  • Minimal Credential CPFT and RRT. RPFT preferred. Mass License. CPR Certified.

  • Work requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. This may include explaining clinical, technical and diagnostic procedures to patients and their families, comforting patients and their families, enforcing policies and regulations in difficult situations, or performing other duties requiring a comparable level of communication skill.

  • Work requires providing direct patient care to pediatric, adolescent, young adult, adult and geriatric patients.
