Position Purpose
Provides 24-hour authority, responsibility and accountability for the overall coordination of the processes related to Infection Control. Oversees the Infection Control Programs for Mercy Medical Center and Johnson Memorial Hospital. Works with management to ensure all infection control incidents are investigated and resolved, including developing action plans and issuing corrective actions to staff/programs when necessary. Ensures on going Joint Commission (TJC) requirements and other applicable federal, state, and local regulatory and /or accrediting agencies are met. Ensures the attainment of departmental goals and objectives as determined by the Manager of Quality & Regulatory Compliance.
What you will do
Infection control services to all ages of patients and colleagues, particularly focusing on the prevention of disease transmission and/or infection
Direct and coordinate the epidemiological investigation of all possible patient and staff exposures to infectious disease and directs the implementation of necessary controls to prevent further exposures
Develop implementation of infection control policies, procedures, objectives and quality improvement activities
Present infection control in-services in coordination with department heads, nurse managers and the Department of Education
Assist in review and reduction strategies related to employee and patient sharps injuries and/or related safety issues
Investigate risks and associated staff performance issues, and if necessary, works with managers to implement corrective actions of staff and/or programs
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in nursing, medical technology, microbiology, epidemiology or related field in order to direct epidemiological investigations and generation of detailed, comprehensive reports
If RN: Current licensure required as a Registered Nurse in MassachusettsIf Medical Technologist: ASCP certification
Five (5) years of recent acute care experience in order to interpret appropriate infection control policies/procedures; progressively more responsible work-related experience, and six (6) months of on-the-job training and orientation.
Certification in Infection Control (C.I.C.) by APIC required or, upon eligibility to sit for examination, must successfully pass CIC exam for continued employment.
Work requires current knowledge of applicable federal regulations and standards as related to OSHA, TJC, Department of Public Health, and CQI concepts and tools in order to assure hospital compliance with Regulatory Agencies
