Mercy Medical Center, Springfield, MA/Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford Springs, CT

Come and join our dedicated teams of pharmacy professionals. You would plan, develop, organize, educate, and coordinate the clinical operations of the Springfield Market Pharmacy Departments at Mercy Medical Center and Johnson Memorial hospital with regard to therapeutic drug monitoring, Quality Improvement (QI), Drug Use Evaluations (DUE), policies and protocols for the safe and effective use of medications, Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee, drug formulary maintenance, Adverse Drug Reaction/Events (ADR & ADE) monitoring and drug information. Under the direction of the Clinical Pharmacy Manager, may be assigned as the Residency Program Director as required by departmental needs.

What You Will Do:

  • Develops and coordinates clinically relevant programs for the pharmacists to improve clinical skills and knowledge of the staff. Program development will concentrate on more effective communication with other health-care providers, including planned initiatives, therapeutic substitutions, rational and cost-effective drug utilization, and drug information, as well as promoting formulary compliance. Provides education to patients on an as needed basis.

  • Coordinates activities of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics and other committees while providing clinical expertise and information. Charged with managing the appropriate utilization of resources.

  • Develops and implements DUE and other clinical studies and prepares the necessary reports.

  • Maintains drug information resources for the Pharmacy Departments.

  • Works with department leadership to understand customer requirements, develop goals, and contribute to achieving department goals.

  • Dedicates time to educate students and residents on clinical rotation; incorporates them into workflow and patient care activities, coordinates disease state topic discussions and facilitates assignments to align with departmental projects and patient care needs.

  • If assigned, oversees pharmacy residency program, and may act as the department’s Residency Program Director under the guidance of the Clinical Pharmacy Manager. Has oversight of all administrative and clinical duties for residents and preceptors and responsible for program sustainability and improvements.

  • Organizes, implements, and monitors the clinical pharmacy services of the department to promote safe, effective, and cost-effective medication use.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree

  • Two (2) to four (4) years of previous related hospital pharmacy experience, or Completion of an American Society for Health System pharmacists (ASHP) Pharmacy Practice Residency or equivalent experience. Board Certification in Pharmacy is required within one (1) year of accepting this position.

  • Licensure required as a Pharmacist by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and State of Connecticut.

  • Requires the ability to counsel and educate patients and their families, communicate effectively with other health care professionals, assign and follow-up on the work of other employees, or performs other duties requiring a comparable level of communication skill. Ability to remain calm and efficient in stressful situations while handling multiple priorities and external demands.

  • Work requires providing disease state management and direct patient care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, young adult, adult, and geriatric patients.
