Position Title: After School Sports and Recreation Activity Specialist Division: Youth Services Reports to: Site Coordinator Time Commitment: Part-Time M-F 3:30pm-6pm (flexible) Location: MLK Community Center/MLK Charter School Salary Range: \$16- \$18 per hour Position Summary: Reporting to the Site Coordinator, the After School Sports and Recreation Activity Specialist is responsible for leading sports and recreational activities for youth in grades K-8. This role includes planning, organizing, and supervising a variety of physical activities, ensuring that programs are safe, structured, and promote physical health and teamwork. Duties & Responsibilities: Follow and enforce all Agency policies and procedures. Plan and implement age-appropriate sports and recreational activities for youth in grades K-8. Develop, organize, and manage a range of physical activities, ensuring they are safe, structured, and educational. Encourage and motivate participation and interest in sports and recreation activities. Provide suggestions and implement improvements to the program in collaboration with the Site Coordinator. Build positive relationships with youth and adults, serving as a role model in behavior, communication, and attitude. Direct staff to maintain clean and orderly program areas, and ensure proper management of sports equipment and supplies. Plan and display activity schedules and evidence of work in approved areas. Provide updates and reports on program activities, evaluating participation, progress, and development of youth. Manage the inventory, ordering, and maintenance of all sports and recreational equipment. Attend meetings with staff, parents, volunteers, and community members as directed to assist with program delivery and promotion. Communicate effectively with parents to understand and better manage the children?s needs. Qualifications: At least two years of experience in sports, recreation, or a related discipline, or equivalent training. A minimum of two years of experience working with youth elementary or middle school aged. Proven skills and competency as an instructor and coach. Knowledge of conflict resolution, mediation, and mentoring techniques. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with staff, members, parents, groups, and community residents. Understanding of office protocols regarding dress, behavior, record-keeping, confidentiality, meetings, visitors, and use of supplies and equipment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
