Town of Yarmouth Director of Recreation in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts
The Town of Yarmouth is searching for a Recreation Director to join their Recreation team! Working under the administrative direction of the Assistant Town Administrator, the Recreation Director provides administrative, organizational, and supervisory work planning and directing the operations of a comprehensive community recreational program; all other related work as required. Exercises considerable initiative, creativity, and independent judgment in the planning, promotion, administration, and execution of community recreational services, and in the direction of personnel. Supervises two full-time department employees and approximately 100 seasonal or part-time employees -- roughly 17 full time equivalents --working on various programs throughout the year. Recruit, train, and supervise numerous volunteers. Recommended Minimum Qualifications: Education: Bachelor\'s degree in municipal recreation administration, leisure studies, physical education or related field. Experience Five years progressively responsible experience in recreation management including supervisory experience, preferably in a municipal setting; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Ability and Skill: Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of community recreation management and athletic program curriculum management. Knowledge of financial planning and personnel management. Thorough understanding of municipal budgeting process. Ability: Ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with government agencies, other town employees and the general public; ability to supervise and evaluate the work of professional and non-professional subordinates. Special Qualifications: CPR, First Aid, and Water Safety Instruction certificates desired. Employee may be required to become bonded to handle departmental funds.
