City of Somerville Engineering Project Assistant/Internship in Somerville, Massachusetts
Essential Functions:

Perform utility, right of way, and property research using existing city records.
Aid Engineering staff with field data collection such as land surveying and inspection of construction projects.
Compile and input data obtained from field inspections into computer system.
Review televised sewer and drain inspection videos, reports, and recommendations.
Provide technical assistance with office calculations.
Prepare communications materials, including Power Point presentations, for internal and public facing meetings.
Perform field inspection of roadway and sidewalk surfaces, subsurface utilities, and outfalls.
Generate engineering reports for use by Engineering staff and regulatory agencies.
Distribute notices related to upcoming construction projects.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Proficiency in personal computer operation and experience in working with Windows programs such as Excel, Power Point, and Word. High motivation. Interest in teamwork.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Good writing skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to perform assigned tasks with minimum supervision.
EDUCATION DESIRED
Undergraduate coursework in civil and/or environmental engineering, surveying, or related fields.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Moderate physical activity including bending, squatting, stretching, pushing, dragging, reaching, and pulling. Exposure to all weather conditions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Professional office and field work.
Hours: Up to 40 hours per week. 10-week assignment.
FLSA: Non-Exempt

Salary: $21.00 per hour, non-benefits eligible
