Shawme Animal Hospital is a busy veterinary practice celebrating our fourth year in our new state of the art facility on Route 6A in Sandwich. We are currently seeking highly motivated, experienced team members with excellent communication skills and a passion for delivering top notch veterinary care to our valued patients and clients. Responsibilities include: patient check-in, obtaining relevant case history, implementing humane animal restraint & safety procedures, collecting and processing lab samples, capturing & developing digital radiographs, placing IV catheters, performing dental cleaning procedures, surgical preparation & assistance, client education, utilizing AVImark veterinary software, and supporting our reception team in answering phones and scheduling appointments. The role of the veterinary assistant is critical to the operation of an animal hospital, and individuals are responsible for helping with restraint, x-ray, lab work, client & patient interaction and hospital upkeep & maintenance. Previous veterinary experience is preferred, but we are willing to train applicants with a positive attitude and passion for learning and cooperation. Job Requirements: Previous veterinary experience preferred, Vet Tech Certification a bonus. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs. and must be able to keep up and communicate well in a busy, fast paced work environment. May be required to work Saturdays and evening hours. PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS Minimum of 18 years old. Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain. Enjoys working with people in similar circumstances. Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis. Is well-spoken and approaches his/her job duties in a mature nature. Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all levels of hospital team members. Has excellent client communication skills. Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 50 lbs). Walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent position. Working conditions: May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases.
