Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston Medical Technicians/Scribes-Training Available in Sandwich, Massachusetts

Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston (OCB) was established in 1969 to offer patients the highest quality eye care and laser/surgical treatment. OCB recently joined forces with Eye Health Services to become the premier eye care provider in the region with nineteen practice locations in the greater Boston area and Cape Cod. In addition, OCB has five affiliated surgery and laser centers. OCB and its affiliates employ 700+ employees. The staff of 75 ophthalmologists uses the most advanced diagnostic, laser and surgical techniques available and their level of care has earned Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston a national and international reputation for excellence. 

Currently, OCB is seeking an Ophthalmic Technicians/Scribes for our Sandwich office with travel to Falmouth, Plymouth, and Yarmouth (1 x per month). 

The primary responsibility of an Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe is to provide accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations, while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status.

Example of Duties:

  • Correctly summarize and document what the physician says during an examination, including but not limited to, proper charting of the examination: documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment, and recommendations for treatment.

  • Assist when appropriate during the exam, including but not limited to holding the patient’s head in the slit lamp, providing additional medications and/or instruments, following directions in a medical emergency.

  • Provides written instructions and/or patient education materials for the patient to review at home. Ensure patient understands all instructions.

  • Accurately maintain patient charts

  • Maintain patient flow.

  • Assists floor technicians with patient care as needed.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma. Basic understanding of algebraic principles.

  • Covid Vaccine; must provide Vaccination card prior to start

  • Two or more years of experience in an office setting; health care experience a plus.

  • Excellent spelling ability. Must be detail oriented and organized.

  • Must have strong PC and administrative skills.

  • Must be able to do accurate refractions efficiently.
