Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Walk In & Urgent Care Medical Director will participate in the planning and implementation of NSCH’s walk in & urgent care clinical program in concert with the strategic plan. S/he/they will create a shared vision by developing and continuously communicating goals in alignment with NSCH’s mission and ensure the provision of high quality and efficient walk-in & urgent care services. The V.P for Performance Improvement and Senior Manager of Facilities and Patient Experience will work closely with the Walk-In & Urgent Care Medical Director in developing a high-performing, collaborative & collegial team. As a team member at our health center, you will work with staff who are racially, ethnically and culturally diverse, so being culturally competent is required. A sense of humor is also very important!

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care

  • Assist in establishing standards of walk-in and urgent care medical services

  • Advise the CMO and/or Senior Leadership Team on medical, administrative and risk management activities

  • Implement clinical safety policies and practices that meet standards of care.

  • Assure compliance with licensing certification and accrediting bodies.

  • Work with Leadership to identify opportunities to improve the services provided so that patients and referring medical providers report an outstanding experience with the services.

  • Attend relevant staff and management meetings

  • Participate in the recruitment and selection process for walk-in and urgent care clinical staff.

  • Advise medical equipment and supplies purchasing.

  • Facilitate medical staff meetings in conjunction with the CMO

  • Collaborate with the CMO, Medical Directors and Associate Medical Directors on grant-specific projects, including the development of work plans, monitoring quality measures, and implement measures to improve outcomes related to various clinical measures

  • Serve as Site Sponsor and oversee activities of the LEAN teams and other Quality/Performance Improvement work.

  • Participate in planning activities and the development of goals.

  • Continually assesses operations for opportunities to increase value to referring providers and patients.

  • Ensure facilities meet the needs of patients and local providers, whether affiliated with NSCH or not.

  • Develop proposals and plans to ensure that as volume grows the facilities are efficiently utilized and are responsive to patient and referral source needs.

  • Maintain relationships with primary care and other providers within NSCH and in the greater community.

  • Ensure staff are up to date on changes in clinical, employee and business practices and policies.

  • Monitor budget and coordinate clinical activities with operations, billing and financial management.

  • Develop, implement and revise policies, procedures and protocols affecting medical practice and quality of care.

  • Ensure compliance with clinical policies and procedures including the proper usage of EMR, billing and administrative systems.

  • Conduct clinical staff appraisals and peer reviews, set individual improvement goals and develop training plans together with clinical staff to achieve targeted goals.

  • Develop clinical content for training of clinical staff including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician associates/assistants, nurses, radiology technicians and medical assistants.

  • Oversee development of radiology and lab procedures. Assure compliance with COLA/CLIA and radiology requirements.

  • Monitor level of care using statistical models and chart reviews and provide unsolicited medical judgment where appropriate

In 2019, NSCH provided services to 13,272 patients in 63,170 visits. NSCH has 10 services sites: Gloucester, Peabody and Salem Family Health Centers; the school-based health centers at Salem High School and Peabody Veterans Memorial High School; and behavioral health only services at the Bentley Academy, Collins Middle School, Horace Mann School, Bates Elementary School, and the Peabody Learning Academy. Requirements

  • SMD/DO, NP or PA – must be able to treat all ages

  • At least 5 years of experience as a walk-in & urgent care physician/NP/PA, preferably in a community health center or clinical settings focused on care of the medically underserved

  • At least three years of management/supervisory experience

  • MA Licensed and Board Certified

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally-diverse environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to maintain a high level of customer service with both patients and coworkers

  • Preference will be given to qualified bilingual/bicultural individuals who can speak Spanish and/or Portuguese

  • Ability to travel to other NSCH sites for meetings and clinical coverage as needed is required.

  • Evening and weekend hours required.

  • Effective November 1, 2021, North Shore Community Health (NSCH) requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as a condition of employment, unless a valid religious or medical exception is granted.
