Job Description:
Johnson & Johnson is currently seeking a Senior Counsel, Spine & Biomaterials to join our Global Legal Organization located in Raynham, MA, New Brunswick, NJ, Cincinnati, OH, or West Chester, PA.
This Senior Counsel position in the Johnson & Johnson Legal Organization is for an attorney representing the J&J MedTech Orthopaedics business unit, providing general legal support for the Spine and Biomaterials businesses and the leadership teams managing those product lines.
This position provides senior management and functional partners in the Spine and Biomaterials businesses with strategic legal advice on general legal issues, focusing in the areas of healthcare laws, employment, privacy, product liability, acquisitions and licensing, distribution and pricing issues, technology laws, medical device regulation and general corporate issues. The position will involve taking a proactive role in a wide range of business initiatives, including portfolio development, marketing and promotional activities, regulatory submissions, support of go-to-market activities, acquisition due diligence, and negotiation of strategic agreements. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and negotiating complex commercial agreements in the areas listed above, including consulting, supply, development, licensing, distribution, promotion, co-marketing, and data use and data rights agreements; assisting in litigation and investigations and managing outside counsel relationships, work flow and budget; training, educating and advising business partners on key legal topics and leading and serving on project teams and committees to assess and implement special projects in the local business and/or the J&J Global Legal Organization .
The position will also liaise with attorneys for the other J&J MedTech Orthopaedics businesses to coordinate and align practices across the business unit and will coordinate with in-house counsel outside of the United States advising the Orthopaedics business on regional issues. Counsel will collaborate with functional lawyers for regulatory, intellectual property, trademark, privacy, digital technology, tax and other specialists in the J&J Global Legal Organization. Counsel in this role will further business goals while protecting the company’s rights, interests, and reputation and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, industry guidelines and internal policies.
Qualifications
JD degree from nationally recognized university, with all bar admissions in good standing required.
At least 10 years of relevant experience practicing as an attorney is required. Experience should include work at a top tier, major market law firm, or in-house legal department.
Meaningful experience in the healthcare industry expected (medical device or medical technology experience a plus).
Strength in general corporate / commercial matters to support key responsibilities, including strong negotiating and drafting skills.
Experience advising on applicable healthcare, privacy and medical device laws and regulations, including one or more of the following: False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, HIPAA/GDPR and the Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act.
Expertise in technology law, software licensing, SAAS and data analytics highly valued.
Ability to deal with ambiguity inherent in emerging areas and to lead innovative problem-solving to addresses new business challenges in a highly competitive market.
Excellent organizational skills, ability to work under time pressure and to balance competing demands.
Strong communication skills and ability to interact with and counsel senior executives and other business partners.
Excellent collaborative skills, including the ability to coordinate with J&J attorneys, external counsel, functional leaders and other advisors.
A track record of leadership, commitment to ethical decision making and ability to build trust with business partners.
A positive attitude and the skills to work across business functions and cultures with teams located in multiple time zones, and to act independently in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to travel up to 25% within the U.S.
Demonstrated willingness to listen and learn and proven ability to make and respectfully explain proper decisions required.
Ability to receive specific direction from more senior law professionals and provide guidance to professional staff in developing solutions to problems presented.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$146,000-$251,850
Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)). This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
