The E2E Manufacturing Engineering NPI Manager will be an integral part of the Supply Chain Technical Operations NPI external manufacturing team. This role will support new product initiatives (NPI) of Implant and Instrument programs from a manufacturing engineering perspective focused on externally sourced products across our MedTech Joints Reconstruction platforms in a professional and efficient manner. This individual will manage a team of manufacturing engineers supporting multiple NPI projects while developing positive relationships through strong collaboration with internal and external strategic partners to ensure delivering strong performances. This person will be responsible for driving strong operational excellence and engaging with partners to facilitate timely delivery with compliance alignment to the supply chain strategy. Candidates must be self-motivated, embrace personal challenges and passionate about advancing their own knowledge through continuous learning, independent investigation, and observation.

In addition, candidates must be capable of working as part of a management team to share ideas, make recommendations, and implement continuous improvement activities in support of company operational strategies and customer requirements and needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineering team on Implant and Instrument NPI projects externally sourced from a manufacturing engineering perspective, developing and identifying project capital/expense needs for new product initiatives as assigned.

  • Lead/support project timeline, detail manufacturing process plans with identified manufacturing technologies, resolve complex manufacturing issues, and assess/implement optimization activities to drive improvements on cost and efficiency directly aligned to overall organizational objectives.

  • Establish and develop company standards and guidelines for diverse engineering activities as required.

  • Consult with higher management on business opportunities and potential problems which may impact on the company's business.

  • Provide detailed assessment and critical Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/A) reviews for externally manufactured Implant and Instrument designs/concepts and deliver cost estimates to NPD teams.

  • Present process development results at technical reviews. Communicate effectively within teams and to engineering management on process development progress.

  • Manage and lead team ensuring adequate staffing levels, recruitment, training, proper development of staff, assessment, attendance, rewards, disciplinary issues as required and daily supervision to achieve maximum efficiencies.

  • Apply process risk management base approach on all aspect of the projects including business and technical risks and lead efforts to mitigate those risks.

  • Empower and coach team to operational success.

  • Supervise completion of tasks and perform bi-annual assessments for each direct report.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive cost-effective manufacturing strategies, recommend supplier selections, drive product team decisions on sourcing to achieve cost and deliver on project timelines.

  • Conduct process development, and feasibility studies with external suppliers assessing process capabilities, ensuring robust and optimized processes are characterized and developed.

  • Connect with all levels of the organization effectively.

  • Work effectively in a multi-functional team environment, brainstorm solutions, develop practical innovative cost-effective design concepts, and lead change.

  • Responsible for maintaining compliance and following Company guidelines/policies related to all Health, Safety, and Environmental practices.

  • Responsible for communicating technical reviews and business-related issues or opportunities to the next management level.

  • Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Perform other duties assigned as needed.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field, preferably Mechanical or Manufacturing. Advanced degrees such as MS Engineering and/or MBA or equivalent experience is a plus!

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • 6-8 years proven experience in manufacturing engineering, related to the medical device industry, new product introductions, process development, and process improvements required.

  • Consistent track record in leadership of technical projects within a regulated environment

  • Contribute to development and implementation of GMPs, planning vision, operational strategies, company standards, and manufacturing qualification requirements as related to medical devices.

  • Demonstrated background in talent development and performance leadership of team members and colleagues.

  • Knowledge & experience in engineering and project management principles, such as Risk Management tools, FPX tools, Harmonized Stage Gate Process, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), application of DFM/A practices, Design of Experiment (DOE) methodologies and scientific molding principles.

  • Knowledge & experience in three-dimensional modeling, drafting, layout techniques, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and perform engineering calculations.

  • Track record of innovation and adaptability in project execution, with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills proven track record to operate as part of a team.

  • Knowledge & experience of financial accounting practices and analysis methods to assess product standard cost, project value, capital requirements.

Preferred:

  • Experience with process validation procedures IQ/OQ/PQ, protocols, execution, and report writing.

  • Proficient knowledge of Process Excellence / Six Sigma statistical analysis techniques and its application in manufacturing processes.

  • Knowledge in Six Sigma/DMAIC, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and lean methodologies are a plus.

  • Knowledge of FDA, BSI, ISO, GMP requirements.

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

  • This position does follow the JNJ Flex 3 days in the office two days working remotely

  • Must be able to work In Raynham, MA

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$100,000- $172,500

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
