Work Schedule: (40 hours) 7:00am to 3:30pm

The Department of Mental Health seeks a highly talented individual who will reflect the diversity of our consumer population. The incumbent will provide direct nursing care and treatment to patients by comprehensively observing, assessing and recording their health and mental status. Establishes and regularly updates plans of patient care with both short and long term goals through analysis of data and symptoms and through consultation with other staff and superiors. Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team by participating and communicating in formal meetings and casual discussions to ensure therapeutic patient service delivery. Participates in treatment team and works to provide quality patient care through assisting in the development of treatment and discharge planning, providing treatment and medications and by monitoring patients to aid in rehabilitation. Plan for patients, families and significant others educational needs and initiates measures to meet these needs. Provides leadership to unit staff, instructing personnel in nursing techniques, procedures and equipment as needed to ensure safe and effective nursing care.
Preferred Qualifications: Psychiatric and acute care setting experience preferred.
Cape & Islands Site / Pocasset Mental Health Center provides comprehensive services to adults and children*. *Programs include a 16-bed acute in-patient unit, Case Management, Day Treatment Program and Adult Community Clinical Services. The Pocasset Mental Health Center is a Joint Commission certified facility. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
I. A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for the required experience .*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
*Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.
