BAMSI Nursing Director in Plymouth, Massachusetts

The Nursing Director oversee the medical and nursing supports provided within assigned day and residential programs. Provide clinical supervision to nursing staff. Work collaboratively with team members to ensure the delivery of quality services

BAMSI’s residential network includes community centered living for adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities, brain injuries or mental illness. The dedicated staff members provide support in the areas including, but not limited to, personal care, personal finance, and transportation. Staff members engage the residents in a variety of stimulating, therapeutic activities to build cognitive, physical, and social skills. A number of residential homes offer 24-hour nursing care designed to assist more medically involved residents with medication administration, medical treatments, medical appointments, and other care.

We are looking for a Registered Nurse in the state of Massachusetts with at least 7 years experience working as a nurse with progressive responsibilities. Must have a valid driver's license in state of residence, own means of transportation and a satisfactory driving record.

General Statement of Duties: Oversee the medical and nursing supports provided within assigned day and residential programs including supervision of assigned RNs and LPNs.

Direct Care & Coordination of Medical Services:

  1. Identify health related needs, monitor medical status and work with staff, physicians and allied health professionals to formulate, coordinate and implement medical treatment plans for all individuals served.

  2. Provide clinical and administrative oversight to programs regarding DPH Medication Administration procedures, protocols and compliance. Act as a MAP trainer and consultant.

  3. Monitor the administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring adherence to funders’ regulations, CARF, and DPH regulations.

  4. Provide concise, accurate, and timely medical updates on individuals served to stakeholders including funders, guardians, and BAMSI team members.

  5. Provide coverage at day habilitation programs or other residential programs as needed.

  6. Ensure medications, medical and safety supplies are available as needed.

  7. Coordinate and delegate responsibilities affiliated with hospital admissions and discharges using a collaborative approach.

  8. Provide physical support, assistance with lifting and transferring individuals served who have physical challenges as needed.

  9. Work with partnering home health agencies to secure assessments, therapies and equipment for individuals served.

  10. Participate in the planning and oversight of programs in the absence of a Nurse Manager.

Staff Management & Development:

  1. Assist with interviewing and hiring nurses within the program.

  2. Identify and provide training to nurses and direct care staff.

  3. Collaborate with Assistant Directors to provide supervision and conduct performance appraisals of assigned RNs and LPNs in the day and residential system.

  4. Provide clinical supervision to Nurse Managers.

  5. Provide 24 hour on-call, on a rotating basis, to ensure nursing coverage, provide medical support, and access to resources.

Quality Management:

  1. Ensure the maintenance of medication books, house log books, etc. to ensure program compliance with all regulations; regularly audit the systems.

  2. Ensure highest quality of safety standards and that infection control protocols are followed.

  3. Complete written reports, assessments, etc. as required in a clear, concise and professional manner.

  4. Coordinate the medical and medication reviews conducted at assigned programs. Ensure identified issues are rectified in a timely manner.


  1. Perform other related duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor or designee.

• Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

• A minimum of five (5) years nursing experience or three (3) years supervisory experience required.

• Knowledge of the theories, methods, procedures and practices of nursing care.

• Two years experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license in state of residence.

• Basic computer literacy, including the ability to record data, use electronic time and attendance software and receive and send electronic mail, as needed, is required.

• Effective critical thinking and communication skills.
