Job Description:
The Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Coordinator of Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center shall provide case management and the following clinical services to patients of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth (WHHC)
Perform services and procedures outlined in the approved NP privileges which include but are not limited to:
History and Physicals with plans of care for patients with conditions that effect the integument system.
Evaluate patients and dictate wound care reports
Write medication orders/ prescriptions in accordance with written guidelines as agreed upon by the supervising physician, department chief and Massachusetts and Federal law.
Procedures including but not limited to:
Debridement of partial and full thickness wounds
Wound/skin Biopsies
Simple suturing
I&D’s of abscess, seromas, hematomas
Chemical cautery
Application of Biologic Skin Substitutes
Transcutaneous Oximetry /Volume Plethysmography interpretation
Hyperbaric Management without consultation for:
Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment and supervision
Standard UHMS treatment protocols
Management of Hyperbaric complications: barotraumas, Oxygen toxicity, hypoglycemia, etc.
Chronic refractory osteomyelitis
Diabetic Wagner grade 3 ulcerations
Compromised flaps/grafts
Radiation tissue/bone damage
Provide education, consents, and orders for scheduled WHHC procedures.
Arrange for necessary testing and/or consultation that may be required.
Communicate with the referring physician as needed to assure continuity of care.
Perform other duties as reasonably assigned.
Administrative
The Nurse Practitioner Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the direction of staff to include assignment, evaluation, hiring and other employment decisions in partnership with the director.
Works closely with both the Medical and Administrative Directors in Program development and implementation
She / he shall provide direct supervision to clinical staff (RN, LPN, MA, Unit Coordinator etc.).
Organizes and prioritizes clinical responsibilities.
Monitoring patient, referring physician and customer satisfaction
Communication
Establish relationships with professional and/or other health-related groups within the clinic, hospital and community;
Share clinical expertise with professional, supportive personnel and general community by conducting or facilitating individual or group educational presentations.
Documents care and administrative reports in an accurate, timely manner using appropriate forms and Records;
Function as an integral member of the WHHC team and collaborate with other health disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
Use interpersonal skills to work productively with all levels of hospital personnel.
Skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate with diverse populations, including providers, patients, and families;
Analytical skills to evaluate patient status and healthcare procedures/techniques and to monitor quality of care;
Willingness to learn and remain flexible in the changing healthcare environment;
Ability to conceptualize, develop, and implement new ideas or systems;
Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion while performing duties;
Ability to meet with the public outside the organization and efficiently market and promote the Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center service line.
Continuous Quality Improvement
Identifies, analyzes, and resolves patient care problems to foster significant improvement in patient care.
Participates in interdisciplinary continuous quality improvement activities on an ongoing basis.
Demonstrates a commitment to improving the quality of care provided to patients and services provided by the WHHC
Education/Experience Required
Masters in Nursing from an accredited program
Wound Care Certification
Hyperbaric 40 hour introductory course
Experience working with interdisciplinary teams
Management / charge nurse experience
Experience using an electronic health record
Experience with coding and billing
Must be eligible for credentialing and contracting with all insurers.
Registration/Certification
Currently licensed in Massachusetts as a APRN (without restriction).
Wound Care Certification
ACLS
