Jordan Hospital Histology Technician/Histology Technologist in Plymouth, Massachusetts


  • Prepare, process, embed, cut, coverslip, stain and mount tissue specimens for evaluation and examination by the pathologist.

  • Perform special staining procedures, including IHC on tissue and quality control slides as requested.

  • Accession specimens for Pathology and Cytology in the computer.

  • Communicate with appropriate provider regarding specimen problems

  • Prepare GYN and Non-GYN cytology specimens and order molecular studies

  • Perform routine maintenance of equipment and instruments and keep appropriate records.

  • Maintain inventory, communicate ordering needs to Clinical Specialist

  • Maintain work area in a clean and safe manner.

  • Attend laboratory meetings, in-service education meetings and educational seminars as requested.

  • Pick up specimens regularly from all areas of hospital.

  • Perform frozen sections.

  • Train both new employees and intern staff in assigned area of expertise.

  • Dispose of specimens in correct manner.

  • Dispose of hazardous chemicals in a safe and appropriate manner.

    For HistologyTechnologist - In addition to above Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Together with Clinical Specialist and/or Anatomic Pathology Manager, test and validate new procedures including antibodies for IHC.

  • Familiarity with CAP standards and assists Clinical Specialist with compliance

  • Gross smalls routinely and other specimens as directed by a pathologist

    Education/Experience Required:

  • High School diploma

  • Written and verbal skills in English at a college graduate level

  • Must take and pass hospital pathology test


  • HT(ASCP) or HLT(ASCP) certified within 1 year of hire or histology lab experience with current enrollment in accredited histology program with successful completion of HT/HLT exam within one year of program completion.
