Job Description:

Clinical Manager, Clinical Decision Unit - Day Shift; Monday-Friday

Who we are:

The Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Plymouth is a modern, 25-bed unit designed to care for patients needing short-term treatments, assessments, and monitoring while they wait to determine if they can be discharged home or admitted as inpatients. This unit is equipped to handle a high volume of patient turnover, with a typical stay of 8-48 hours, similar to the fast-paced environment of an Emergency Room. Patients in the CDU undergo diagnostic testing and receive care in a telemetric setting, allowing for close observation and evaluation of their condition.

Your Role at a Glance

In this highly visible role, you will:

  • Oversee Department Operations : Manage patient flow, staffing levels, staff recruitment and retention, performance evaluations, adherence to policies and procedures, risk management, budget oversight.

  • Supervise and Train : Partner with Staff and Clinical Educator to support, develop and implement unit orientation, competency, continuing education, and in-service programs that support safe practice based on assessed learning needs.

  • Collaborate with Interdisciplinary Teams: Partner with key members of the interdisciplinary team, i.e., hospitalists, pharmacy, nutrition, risk management, physical therapy, & case management to achieve common clinical and patient care goals and identify and mitigate areas of patient care/staff risk and liability.

  • Foster Teamwork : Build a culture of professionalism and collaboration through leadership by example.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Three to five years acute care nursing experience with 2 of the 5 preferably in practice area directly related towards role assignment.

  • Two years of progressively responsible clinical operations and/or leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example while effectively managing multiple competing priorities.

  • Advanced verbal, interpersonal, conflict management, and writing skills in order to perform required leadership duties.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet operational needs of the department.

Registration/Certification:

  • Current RN licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

  • BLS & ACLS certification

  • PALS and/or NRP certification is required based on practice area within 3 months of employment.

  • Specialty or administrator certification (e.g., CNML- certified nurse manager and leader, NEABC or CENP) required within one year of hire or as soon as eligible per national standards.
