Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of Sr. Director of Clinical Services, serves as a medical interpreter.

  • Assists with interpreter services in order to meet hospital’s commitment to providing such services.

  • Answers telephone in an accurately and timely manner that is consistent with customer service standards.

  • Ensures organizational compliance with interpreter services requirements.

  • Sign Language responsibilities based on experience; the interpreter facilitates communication through use of sign language.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Proven ability to problem solve and organize information independently.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; must be comfortable and effective at coordinating communication with patients and families for whom English is not their primary language.

  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, data collection, health privacy regulations, etc.

  • Ability to type at 40 WPM, demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • American Sign Language Interpreter experience preferred.

Registration/Certification:

  • Certification in medical translation/ Certified Medical Translator
