HospiceCare in the Berkshires Music Therapist in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

Position Summary: Utilize music and creative processes to assist patients/families in coping with end-of-life issues and enhance quality of life. Essential Job Functions - Provide direct service to hospice patient/families in homes and places they deem home. - Conduct assessments and provide interventions that meet individual needs. - Consult with referring team to assess needs and prioritize referrals. - Maintain and complete required charting, records, and reports. - Participate in team meetings as requested. - Continual program development and evaluation of music therapy services. - Assist with orientation of new employees and volunteers and continue to educate staff and volunteers about music therapy. - Provide bereavement follow-up to families when appropriate. - Assist with facilitating support groups upon request. - Assess music therapy equipment including inventory, maintenance and use of equipment. - Assist with memorial service upon request. - Be flexible in meeting patient/family needs that require evenings and weekends. - Participate in agency committees and functions as requested and appropriate Qualifications (Minimum qualifications will be considered required unless specifically stated otherwise) Experience: - Bachelor\'s degree or higher in Music Therapy or equivalent. - Experience with terminally ill patients preferred. - 1-2 years of experience in a hospice setting preferred. - Eligible or working towards eligibility for certification as a Music Therapist though the American Music Therapy Association or equivalent. Education and Training: (Acquired through formal education, outside study, training on jobs of lesser degree, or by any combination of these. May be expressed in terms of formal educational equivalents): License, Certification & Registration: - Current Certification: Maintain a status of Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC) through adherence of the CBMT Code of Professional Practice or equivalent. - Valid driver\'s license Other Requirements: - Soothing and pleasant singing voice - Proficient on an accompanying instrument - Proficient in utilizing music therapy techniques to assist he patient and family with the following: 1. Visual motor stimulation 2. Pain, discomfort 3. Anxiety, restlessness, respiratory difficulties, insomnia 4. Depression, emotional outlet 5. Loss of speech or language barrier 6. Need for meaningful activity 7. Lack of support system, isolation 8. Difficulty expressing feelings or interacting with others 9. Need for spiritual expression and 10. Anticipatory grief, multiple losses. - Ability to create a safe environment and mode of expression through music - Understanding and working knowledge of the differences between adult\'s and children\'s reaction to grief and life threatening situations. - Experience with terminally ill preferred; 1-2 years experience in hospice helpful - Awareness of children\'s music literature and age appropriate music activities that correspond to developmental stages.
