Berkshire Health Systems Medication Safety and Diversion Officer in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

  • DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  • The Medication Safety and Diversion Officer (MSDO) is a pharmacist clinical leader who works under the System Pharmacy Director and in collaboration with the VP/Directors of Quality Management Department. The MSDO in concert with pharmacy staff, nursing staff, quality staff, and medical staff, is responsible for guiding the design, implementation, maintenance, evaluation and execution of safe medication processes within Berkshire Medical Health Systems. Duties include, but are not limited to: Medication safety practice improvement, policy development and revision, regulatory compliance assurance, including controlled substance management and diversion analytics, safety program development, staff education and evaluation.

  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)

  • Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of pharmacy experience with at least two years of medication safety experience.

  • Education and Training:

  • Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree (PharmD) is required.

  • Pharmacy Residency Program in area of medication safety is preferred.

  • License, Certification & Registration:

  • MAPHARM - Licensed MA Pharmacist

  • Other Requirements:

  • Communication – Able to communicate (verbal and written) clearly and effectively with other healthcare providers including pharmacists, physicians and nurses. Fosters team environment by building relationships between departments, providing clinical education, support, training to staff members.

  • PC Skills – Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications and other required operating systems such as, bar-coding systems, smart-pumps, automated dispensing systems, CPOE, and clinical decision support systems. Meditech experience preferred.
