Berkshire Health Systems Medical Assistant II/Clinical Support Rep in Pittsfield, Massachusetts
DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION
BMC’s Primary Care Outreach Team (PCOT) is based in the Dept. of Psychiatry and is a busy hub of multiple services including the consultation-liaison service to acute care, outpatient psychiatric consultation to primary care, Child & Adolescent BH, and the core administrative structure for the Behavioral Health Integration (BHI) team. The Medical Assistant II /Clinical Support Rep in PCOT is a member of this multidisciplinary team in the Dept. of Psychiatry and works collaboratively with other members of the team to ensure timely and smooth office flow, always keeping the needs of the patient first. Duties will include, but not be limited to patient registration, scheduling, reception, collection of payments, appropriate triage of telephone calls and the ability to access and calmly diffuse potentially problematic situations. In addition, she/he will be responsible for providing clinical support to the PCOT providers. This position will function clinically under the direction of the providers and will perform other duties as requested by the department manager.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
Experience:
One to two years of administrative experience in a busy office, preferably a physician practice, is required.
Experience in handling multiple telephone lines required.
Excellent clerical/organizational skills required.
Working knowledge of Windows based PC applications and eClinicalWorks required.
Knowledge of Department specific services preferred.
Insurance knowledge and billing experience strongly preferred.
One to two years’ experience in a busy physician office as a Medical Assistant preferred
Experience in with a behavioral health population preferred
Education and Training:
Two years of college or equivalent work experience preferred.
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Typing (40 WPM)required.
License, Certification & Registration:
CPR certification required within 3 months of employment required
CMA or RMA - Certified or Registered Medical Assistant required within 90 days
Other Requirements:
Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability and experience dealing with agitated/dissatisfied patients, family and physicians.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a fast paced environment.
Ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
Demonstrated competency in handling confidential and sensitive information required.
Excellent telephone skills required.
Sensitivity to diverse cultures and cultural differences and demonstrated ability to read and follow written/verbal direction.
Knowledge of community services needed.
Flexible hours required to cover for vacations and earned time absences.
Self motivated and ability to be independent and flexible within a team framework.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
Injection experience required.
Experience in surgical scheduling, procedures, etc. preferred.
Data entry skills preferred with working knowledge of Windows based PC applications required.
