Berkshire Health Systems Laboratory Dept Supervisor in Pittsfield, Massachusetts
DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
The Department Supervisor is responsible for the management and supervision of all functions and activities in their department at all Laboratory facilities. This includes the processing and reporting of laboratory specimens assuring rapid and accurate results, maintaining laboratory records, training and competency assessment of lab technical staff, ensuring the departments are in compliance with CAP, JCAHO, and other accrediting agencies. Serving as a liaison with physicians and nursing staff. Operating within the departments' budgets, and following all hospital and laboratory policies and procedures with a focus on improving the patient experience, quality of care, and the current and future financial performance of the laboratory. Is responsible for ensuring established QC calibrations procedures for all tests including initiation or remedial action for out of control situations are followed. Ensures the performance of all routine maintenance and calibration of clinical analyzers. Ensures performance of all LIS functions necessary to complete patient testing and specimen processing. Must participate in continuing education programs and consults current technical literature to keep abreast of changes in the field. Is responsible for maintaining reagent and supply inventories. Instructs and evaluates medical technology students or other learners. Develops curriculum, policies, and procedures under the direction of the Program Director of the School of Medical Technology. Participates in assessment of medical technology program.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
Experience:
Five (5) years of recent experience in an approved laboratory as a supervisor or seven years (7) as a medical technologist.
Experience in specific department discipline is required.
Knowledge of HIS, LIS, and current word processing, spread sheet and presentation (PowerPoint) software applications.
Experience in scheduling and in the resolution of personnel issues preferred.
Teaching experience preferred.
Education and Training:
BS degree in medical technology or a related science specific for department discipline; Advanced degree preferred in specialty.
License, Certification & Registration:
MT/CLS - Certified Medical Technologist/Clinical Lab Scientist thru ASCP/NCA

Specialist qualification in discipline preferred.
