Job Responsibilities :
The Hospice Physician is responsible for providing Hospice Physician services in cooperation with the Hospice Medical Director including the following:
Provide hospice physician services (including IDT attendance, verbal and written CTIs, and education and consultation with nursing staff) on a regular and ongoing basis to at least one of Good Shepherd’s hospice teams.
Provide Hospice Face to Face eligibility visits when needed
Provide Hospice symptom management/goals of care visit when necessary.
Act as the attending physician for hospice patients in need of one.
Provide Hospice physician after-hour coverage for all of Good Shepherd’s hospice teams in conjunction/rotation with the Hospice Medical Director.
Provide Hospice Physician coverage, including on-call coverage, IDT attendance and prescriptions in the absence of the Hospice Medical Director.
Liaise with attending physicians and to ensure appropriate medical care when necessary.
Serve as medical resource to Good Shepherd staff, clients, families, and attending physicians regarding pain and symptom control management.
Assist in the resolution of complicated client care decisions.
Education, Skills and Experience :
Licensed in Massachusetts as a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy
Board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
Experience in pain management and symptom control
Experience with interdisciplinary team settings
Must possess good communication skills and qualities of empathy and sensitivity regarding the needs of terminally ill people and their families
Must have expertise in the medical care of terminally ill individuals
