Town of Needham Seasonal Laborer Trade Assistants in Needham, Massachusetts
The Department of Public Work (DPW) is pleased to offer seasonal employment opportunities, completing meaningful work in the community while also providing support to the Department?s operational functions. The DPW supports a wide variety of activities and programs over the summer months and relies on motivated, hard-working summer staff to ensure that roads, parks, water, wastewater, stormwater infrastructure, fleet, waste management, engineering, and buildings are ready for the upcoming year. These jobs offer the opportunity to experience public service at its most fundamental level by providing insight into the workings of infrastructure maintenance. You may have the opportunity to support the parks crew in maintaining public fields, assist the water and sewer crews promoting the importance of water safety, work with the recycling and solid waste team in the proper collection and processing of household refuse, support the building maintenance team on a variety of summer projects throughout Town, or assist the highway crews in responding to work orders and or a variety of construction projects. Building Maintenance must be 18 Duties and Responsibilities These duties are a general summary and contingent upon on the division assignment: Leaf and rubbish collection, tree planting and removal, assembly and disassembly of spectator stands, operation of lawn and grass cutting equipment. Support water and sewer work crews by painting fire hydrants and structures, work with metering crew, and assists at the water treatment plant. Provide general support towards daily fleet objectives. Assist in coordinating necessary parts, scheduling appointments, processing service entries and vender invoices. Providing shop assistance to technicians when demand is high. Organizing and cleaning as required. Participate in the oversight of residential drop-off program, assist in general laborer duties. Assist field engineers with surveying and project management, scanning/organizing documents, and office support. Paint fences and other structures, assist with paving and roadway maintenance, complete masonry repairs, pavement marking installation, and washing trucks. Provide custodial support and general assistance to the trades staff including stripping, waxing and buffing floors, general cleaning, and moving items. Additional duties may include providing general support for HVAC Technicians, Electricians, Plumbers, and Carpenters. Requirements Trades Assistant positions require all applicants be over 18 years of age. Applicants under 18 years of age must submit an Employment Permit for work with the Town. Individuals hired must complete the Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification. For positions requiring unsupervised contact with vulnerable populations, a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check is required. Some positions require a valid driver?s license to complete relevant seasonal work.
