Department Description:The Surgical Pavilion at BID–Needham brings together exceptional surgical expertise in a patient-centered environment with the convenience of a community setting. Newly built operating room suites utilize the latest technologies, including specialized equipment for minimally invasive procedures, image-guided, and endoscopic procedures. New and enlarged preoperative rooms and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), located next to the operating rooms, improve service efficiency.
Our board-certified surgeons offer surgical expertise rarely found in a community setting. Trained at some of the nation’s leading medical schools, many are Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Job Location:Needham, MA
Job Summary:Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the perioperative technician performs a variety of duties in an acute care setting including assisting with vital signs, nutrition, escorting and transporting patients, answering and dispatching calls and messages, stocking and restocking carts and work rooms, delivering specimens including blood products, cleaning patient care items (such as stretchers, cuffs, etc) used in department. May be required to assist professional staff during surgical procedures by positioning patients or by obtaining necessary equipment and supplies.
In coordination with the Pre-Op nurses, identifies the patient and escorts them to the Pre-op area. Assists patient onto the stretcher.
Assists with initial vital signs, tagging belongings, and transporting them to the PACU as needed.
Always reports any observations made as well as and other pertinent information regarding patient conditions to the RN staff in Pre-op.
Under direct supervision of the Clinical Director or Resource nurse (or designee), answers telephones, transfers calls or takes messages using Service Excellence training and techniques.
Stock anesthesia supply carts, including line
cart. Stock anesthesia workroom, ultrasound
supplies and other anesthetizing areas.
High School diploma or GED required .
Certificate 1 preferred: Medical Assistant Certificate
0-1 years related work experience required.
Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.
- Meditech knowledge preferred

Physical Nature of the Job:
