Job Profile Summary
This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Ultrasound duties: Utilizes Ultrasound Technology to provide images of internal body structures. A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs. An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.
Job Overview
Under the general direction of the Ultrasound Clinical Supervisor, performs a variety of procedures involving the use of high frequency sound waves to investigate the vascular aspects of the abdomen, pelvis, neck, upper and lower extremities. Requires a high degree of technical knowledge pertaining to acoustics and its various interactions within the human body. An in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology is also required so the technologist can evaluate laboratory data, past medical history and pertinent symptoms to tailor the ultrasound or vascular examination to each patient individually.
Job Description
Minimum Qualifications :
Associates degree or higher in two (2) year Ultrasound program.
American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS).
Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) within one year of date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Two (2) years as an ultrasound technologist with one (1) additional year of experience performing vascular examinations.
Duties and Responsibilities : The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
Sets up and operates equipment, manipulating transducers and adjusting console dials to obtain a clear recording of specified sections of the body.
Assists radiologists and/or vascular surgeons in interpretation by describing anatomy, anatomical location and acoustic characteristics of each film or computer report.
Utilizes patient charts to review patient’s medical history and previous exams.
Reports findings of each exam to radiologist including documenting of technologist worksheet.
Performs exams according to IAC protocols.
Independently oversees a daily outpatient schedule as well as accommodating inpatient exams as well.
Keeps up to date of new developments, techniques, and equipment in the ultrasound field by attending courses, seminars and review of professional publications.
Physical Requirements :
Frequent standing, occasional sitting & walking, lifting of 30-35 lbs., pushing and maneuvering equipment.
Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate echo equipment and computer keyboard
Requires ability to see echo screen and reports.
Skills & Abilities:
Medical terminology.
Clerical skills.
Proficient in upper and lower extremity venous, upper and lower extremity arterial, bypass grafts and stents, carotid, renal artery, mesenteric, SMA, abdominal doppler complete (portal vein, hepatic vein and artery, and splenic vein), ABI/PVR.
