Wellforce Sr Medical Technologist (U) in Melrose, Massachusetts
Under direction of the Operations manager, performs wide variety of diagnostic laboratory tests and procedures as required. Assists Medical Technologist in performance of more difficult tests as requested. Receives specimens or collects directly from patients. Performs laboratory testing of patient and proficiency specimens on a variety of instruments. Has the ability to judge validity and accuracy of obtained results. Coordinates daily workload and workflow ensuring timely completion of testing according to priority. Performs quality control, instrument checks and maintenance according to schedule and assures proper function through interpretation of QC results. Takes and documents proper remedial action when systems not operating within standards. Submits monthly QC statistics to manufacturer for peer group comparison and maintains active review of result. Monitors department supplies and ensures an adequate supply with minimal “rush” ordering. Monitors outdate of reagents to provide an adequate time frame for crossovers to new pools or lots. Sets up new QC procedures or evaluates new QC materials. Keeps abreast of cutting edge products or procedures through monthly trade journals and continuing education. Responsible for the orientation and training of new employees. Develops skills and knowledge of employees and can serve as a resource to both clients and other employees. Will provide input to Lab Manager for both competency and annual reviews. Ensures that CAP proficiency samples are rotated amongst all staff and that results are submitted in a timely manner from testing similarly to patients. Will investigate and respond to any proficiency testing failures. Provides “in-house” continuing education and proficiency challenges.
Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Science or equivalent which meets the CLIA regulations. MT or MLT ASCP preferred. 2 years of department specific MT/MLT experience needed. Must have good technical skills as a generalist.
