Unit Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the ICU is responsible for providing high-quality, compassionate care to critically ill patients in a 12-bed Intensive Care Unit at a community hospital. The RN will manage patients with complex medical conditions, often requiring mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, and other advanced life support techniques. This role involves close collaboration with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of critically ill patients.

  • Monitor and interpret vital signs, recognizing abnormal patterns or trends, and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.

  • Administer medications, including IV fluids, blood products, and other treatments, following established protocols and safety guidelines.

  • Manage ventilators, infusion pumps, CVVH, and other ICU equipment.

  • Provide comprehensive wound care, tube feedings, and other advanced nursing interventions.

  • Maintain accurate, detailed patient records, including assessments, interventions, medications administered, and patient responses.

  • Ensure all documentation meets hospital, state, and federal guidelines.

  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other members of the healthcare team to formulate, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.

  • Communicate effectively with patients' families, providing education and emotional support.

  • Follow infection control guidelines, safety protocols, and best practices for patient care in a critical care environment.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and comply with hospital policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.

  • Utilize critical thinking skills to prioritize patient care, manage emergencies, and make timely decisions under pressure.

  • Respond appropriately to cardiac and respiratory emergencies, including Code Blue situations.

  • Participate in ongoing education and training to maintain nursing competencies in critical care.

  • Mentor and assist in the orientation of new ICU nurses and nursing students.

Qualifications:

  • RN Massachusettslicense required

  • Associates required

  • BLS preferred

  • BLS required

  • Tele experience preferred

Hours: 36 hours/week, Evening/Night Shift 7p-7a

Every third weekend
