City of Medford PW8 Maintenance Craftsperson/Laborer in Medford, Massachusetts
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the routine semi-skilled to skilled manual work in the DPW including digging and filling trenches, grading and loaming, and other duties as assigned. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Highway Foreperson, performs tasks involving manual labor requiring the highest degree of skill in the construction and repair of streets, sidewalks, curbing, culverts, manholes, plumbing work, and painting. Includes work requiring skill in excavating, bracing, grading, spreading stone, raking asphalt, setting curbing and foundations and markers; and in connection therewith to perform tasks requiring an ordinary degree of skill, and to perform the work of a laborer such as pick and shovel work required in digging and filling trenches, grading and loaming; cutting and mowing grass with hand or power mower and associated ground keeping tasks and to incidentally supervise the work of a group of (not more than 10) laborers engaged in tasks involving manual labor not requiring a high degree of skill. To perform such tasks as may be assigned during snow removal operations. Heavy lifting is required. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Minimum Requirements: High School or GED Must Hold License: Valid Class D Driver?s License and a Class A or B (CDL) Commercial Driver?s License. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Indoor and outdoor environments with a wide range of weather conditions, exposure to vibrations and noise; work on slippery or uneven surfaces, work with electrical energy; work with and around heavy machinery; work in or near vehicle traffic; exposure to dust and fumes from motorized equipment; possible exposure to toxic chemicals; irregular working hours for inclement weather situations and other circumstances. PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Essential functions may require maintaining the physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying which includes the ability to lift at least one hundred pounds; pulling, reaching, bending, climbing, and kneeling; use of fingers, both hands and legs required; must be able to distinguish colors and operate assigned vehicle ADDRESS ALL COVER LETTERS AND RESUMES TO Human Resources Department City of Medford ?
