City of Medford Health Equity Coordinator in Medford, Massachusetts

BASIC FUNCTION: The coordinator will help the City of Medford integrate equity into public health program planning and implementation. They will work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to address barriers to healthcare caused by social and economic inequalities, particularly those affecting diverse racial, ethnic, and linguistic communities, people with disabilities, individuals facing homelessness or housing instability, and others. Using evidence-based health equity strategies, the coordinator will focus on accurate data collection, transparent reporting, and meaningful community engagement to drive systemic change. They will also ensure confidentiality in public health matters and advocate for stronger public health policies in the community. Supervises five Community Liaisons/Community Health Workers and interns. SUPERVISION: The Health Equity Coordinator is an employee of the city of Medford Board of Health. The coordinator reports to the Prevention and Outreach Manager and Medford Director of Public Health. RESPONSIBILITIES: Program Development, Implementation & Management: - Develop and implement strategies to reduce health disparities in Medford. - Identify barriers to healthcare access and recommend policies to improve equity. - Oversee health equity projects, ensuring alignment with community needs and public health best practices. - Develops the work plan and operations of a Community Liaison unit within the Office of Prevention and Outreach to support Health & Climate Equity goals. - Attends appropriate meetings and professional development opportunities. - Performs similar or related work as required or as situation dictates, or as directed by the Manager of Office of Prevention & Outreach and Director of Public Health. - Coordinates training that addresses cultural humility, race, ethnicity, language, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and the social determinants of health. Community Engagement & Outreach: - Build relationships with local organizations, advocacy groups, and residents. - Organize public forums, workshops, and campaigns to promote health equity. - Ensure that community voices are represented in public health decision-making. - Engages municipal leaders, community residents, and social service agencies to identify, contextualize and interpret sound data to measure and monitor health inequities. - Communicates effectively and with excellent customer service skills with the general public in person and on the telephone. Data Collection, Analysis, & Reporting: - Assess health outcomes and disparities using qualitative and quantitative data. - Prepare reports on health equity trends and grant deliverables, present findings to stakeholders. - Utilize data to support grant applications and policy recommendations. - Compiles any number of different types of statistics and productivity reports. - Maintains knowledge of current skills and technology. - Supports the Department in health equity monitoring and improvement initiatives that are designed to reduce or eliminate racial, ethnic, and linguistic disparities. - Prepares required reports in compliance with state requirements to ensure that the Board of Health has sufficient documentation and assists in maintaining Department files and information.
