The Electrical System Design and Demonstration leader will coordinate a team of talented individuals across Defense Engines, Electrical Power and Research focused on identifying innovative electrical systems to meet the needs of emerging electrified propulsion architectures. This individual will work alongside electrified propulsion architecture designers to identify concepts with positively differentiated military mission capability, formulate advanced electrical system architecture designs to meet then needs, and work with component design and manufacturing teams to advance these concepts through ground and flight demonstration. In this role, you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall Defense and Systems business strategy.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Coordinates with propulsion architecture performance, control systems, mechanical and thermal management design team to establish innovative electrical system concepts for next generation electrified propulsion systems.
System Lead guiding cross functional teams of electric component designers through explorative, conceptual, preliminary, detailed design process
Supports manufacturing and test phases for ground and flight demonstration
Develops innovative propulsion electrical system architectures to advance US military competitive advantage and create business opportunities for GE
Advances electrified propulsion architectures and enabling component concepts through system demonstration
Assists in the development of multi-generational product and technology road mapping.
Authors and supports intellectual property to protect GE Aviation interests and right to practice in the military electrified propulsion arena
Authors and supports government and airframer proposal efforts to win external funding for GE Aerospace military electrified propulsion programs
Supports electrical system and component design review and testing toward the advancement of prospective military electrified propulsion products
Defines and executes electrical system demonstration plans to reduce risk on path to military electrified propulsion products
Mentors other engineers relative to best practices, design philosophies and systems engineering thought process.
Coordinates with a cross disciplinary team in the definition and maturation of tools for electrical propulsion system design and analysis.
Understands the military competitive domain and provides electrical system consultation on competitive assessment
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering
A minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering capacity
Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship
Desired Characteristics
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering
A minimum of 10 years of experience in an engineering capacity
Current or previous secret clearance
Strong background in aerospace and propulsion
Demonstrated experience leading electrical system design
Background in electrical component design, including electric machines, power electronics, fuel cells
Experience in aerospace electrical system demonstration and test activities
Strong programming skills including Python and MATLAB
Demonstrated ability to teach and set standard practices within the field
Demonstrated expertise in and analysis tools, such as Unigraphics/NX, ANSYS classic
Experience and familiarity with GD&T principles and reading drawings
Experience in manufacturing high-precision, turbomachinery components
Proven analytical and organizational ability
Demonstrated experience leading technical teams / projects
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Familiarity with and ability to leverage FLIGHT DECK, GE Aerospace's proprietary LEAN operating model
